The Scarsdale diet has been around for many years.
Developed by Dr. Herman Tarnower, this is a low carb, moderate fat and low calorie plan, where you have to drink a lot of water. The concept is that drinking all this water will flush out your system and make you lose weight quickly. In the Scarsdale diet, there is no calorie counting, however the meals are limited to breakfast, lunch and dinner. No in-between snacks are permitted. Herbal appetite suppressants are encouraged. This diet plan lasts between 7 to 14 days.
The Scarsdale diet does not tell you to do exercises to reduce weight. It recommends no strenuous exercise for people who are on the wrong side of 40, unless the person was already in an exercise regimen. Actually, since the plan controls the intake of calorie, the person will anyway be low on energy to even walk vigorously for 30 minutes in a day.
The Scarsdale diet routine
Day 1
Breakfast: Coffee or tea with sugar substitute & 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch: Any amount of lean beef, chicken or fish, tomato salad and coffee or tea. Dinner: Broiled fish, tomato & lettuce salad and grapefruit or melon.
Day 2
Breakfast: Coffee or tea with sugar substitute & 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch: Any amount of fruit salad and coffee. Dinner: Hamburger without bread and all the cooked vegetables you desire.
Day 3
Breakfast: Coffee or tea with sugar substitute & 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch: Tuna salad and grapefruit or melon. Dinner: 2 lean pork chops, mixed green salad and coffee.
Day 4
Breakfast: Coffee or tea with sugar substitute & 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch: 2 eggs, cottage cheese, 3 oz. Squash, 1 toast and coffee. Dinner: Grilled or broiled without skin chicken, spinach or green pepper and coffee.
Day 5
Breakfast: Coffee or tea with sugar substitute & 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch: All the dry cheese you want, spinach and 1 toast. Dinner: Broiled fish, cooked veggies or green salad and 1 toast.
Day 6
Breakfast: Coffee or tea with sugar substitute & 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch: Fruit salad and 1 cup of coffee. Dinner: Broiled chicken without skin, tomato & lettuce, grapefruit/melon and coffee
Day 7
Breakfast: Coffee or tea with sugar substitute & 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch: Cold or hot chicken, tomato & lettuce salad, grapefruit or melon and coffee. Dinner: Lean beef, mixed salad and coffee.
