The benefits of the green tea diet.
What is the green tea diet? It is a program that the Chinese homeopathic health practitioners have been promoting for centuries. They recommend 10 cups a day for remedying several conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease and certain immune deficiencies. Recent scientific research also agrees with them. Researchers today agree that there is indeed curing properties in green tea.
Way back in 1994, an article was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. This article said that a regular diet of green tea was effective in reducing the risks of esophageal cancer by as much as 60%. The study found that certain compounds of green tea inhibited the growth of cancer cells. As a side benefit, green tea was also shown to reduce total cholesterol levels and increase the ratio of HDL (good) cholesterol to LDL (bad) cholesterol.
Curative properties of green tea
Alzheimer: Green tea diet delays Alzheimer's disease. As per a British study, green tea effectively inhibited three important brain-damaging chemicals like Acetylcholinesterase, Butyrylcholinesterase and Beta-secretase.
Flu: Modern day scientists say that green tea helps people fight flu. Drinking green tea stimulates gamma-delta T-cells that boosts immunity against viruses. L-theanine, which is present in green tea triggers the T cells to secrete virus-battling elements, which is 10 times more than normal. Research indicates that even gargling with green tea effectively coats the oral cavity's membranes with catechins, which neutralizes the virus attack.
Fat: According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a green tea diet increases metabolism and oxidizes fat, and that too without raising heart rates. There are only 2 ways to fight obesity. Through dieting which is not at all healthy, and through exercise, which again increases the heart rate and can lead to adverse cardiac effects. A green tea diet is that magic formula which effectively avoids both these side effects.
But are there are negative sides to a green tea diet? Well yes – there is caffeine in green tea, but the count is substantially lower than coffee and other teas. So it is nothing serious.
