Flax Seed Diet Review

Flax seed diet may dramatically change your food habits from high protein, high fat gourmet cuisine to a healthy, harmless, nutritious and palatable meal pattern.

Ground flax seeds add a nutty flavour to foods like oatmeal, breads, casseroles, etc. while it does not substantially change the texture or flavour of recipes. It is best to keep the flax seed whole and grind as much as currently needed in a food processor or grinder so that every time it is fresh. Flax seed may also be used just like the sesame seed is used on top of breads, etc. to impart interesting taste and texture. When taken whole, seeds not crushed by the teeth will pass through undigested.

Some common flaxseed usage:

Take 3 tbsp (45 ml) ground flaxseed for each tbsp (15 ml) of margarine, butter or cooking oil. Flax can be substituted for the entire or part of the fat, depending on the recipe. If you choose to substitute all the fat with flax seed, you may have to increase the liquid by 75% of the amount of flax you are adding. Baking with flax as a substitute may cause baked items to brown more quickly.

Take 1 tbsp (15 ml) of ground flax and 3 tbsp (45 ml) of water that will replace an egg. Let this 1:3 combination stand for several minutes before adding to the main recipe like pancakes, muffins, cookies, etc. For people preferring egg-less recipes, this could prove ideal. Now add a few tbsp of ground flax seed to your bowl of cooked oatmeal and see the difference.

Stir a cup of ground flaxseed to fruit smoothie mix, orange juice or low-fat milk. Also consider adding it to chocolate milk, which may instantly change it into a “milk shake”.

Add some ground flax seed into apple sauce to make it a healthy snack.

Top some ground flax seed onto your yogurt and see how much better it tastes as compared to the common pre-package yogurt mixes offered in the market.

You can also sprinkle ground flax onto your favorite salad.

Soups can benefit from the addition of flax. Use small quantities first, then add more as you get used to the different flavors and textures.

A word of caution. Change in the diet may be introduced slowly so that the body can get used to the added fibers. You should also stay well hydrated as flax absorbs water quickly. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
