diet sodas good / bad?

I used to drink all sodas, diet and regular, but then I switched to only diet and now I can't even drink regular soda anymore because it's too thick and sweet for me. I also try to drink a lot of water and the only diet sodas I drink now are Diet Rite and Slice One, which are both caffeine free and sweetened with Splenda."

DBrew said: "When my mothers doctor told her the sweeteners in diet pop contribute to bone loss, I stopped drinking it. I always knew it was bad but that is proof enough to me. I have had bad teeth and I wonder if it contributed because I used to drink it alot! I really like stevia sweetened tea, and coffee, also water and soy milk. I am sure the dyes in pop are probably not good eithr. I do not know about the carbonation. I know it causes some people ges and upset tummies"
DBrew said: "Well, we ll have things we need to give up and in time we will. You have alot of time to achieve your goals and if a few diet sodas is all you have to worry about, it is a good thing. Maybe just try to get down to one a day. Iced teas with Stevia are a good diet soda replacement"

There is no reason why you can't have diet soda as long as you remember the rule everything in moderation! Just make sure diet soda is not the only thing you drink all day long and you will be fine. Another tip would be to find diet soda's lower in sodium as Diet Rite products are and ones without caffeine."

Some at home, a lot at work, one before work... It's only 40 mg of sodium a can, which is 2% based on a 2000 calorie diet. I drink water now at work, so I'm taking about 3-4 cans of Coke Zero a day on average, and at work it's strictly water. I drink maybe 32 ounces of water a day sometimes more. I know it's not nearly the recommended amount, but it's better than nothing is how I look at it...lol. In my opinion if you cannot stop drinking soda all together, and if diet sodas help get you off of regular soda, drink the diet soda! But to echo everyone else...water is 10000000000000% better for you."

Smeags said: "Lets not talk about if diet soda is good, lets think about how much better it is than regular soda. If you drink 4-12 oz regular soda's a day you have consumed 700 calories and 195 grams of carbs. If you do the same serving with diet coke you take in 0 calories and 0 carbs. So the quick answer is YES, diet soda is good for you when compared to what you are currently drinking. However, there is nothing better for your health than water. It taste great, good for your body and if poured at home cost next to nothing."

Diet soda is devoid of calories, but tastes sweet anyway, which at least in my own experience, brings my blood sugar down to the point where I get hungry at times when I normally wouldn't otherwise. So I think drinking diet soda, or anything else that tastes sweet, but is calorically inert probably results in me eating more. So I try and avoid that. That said, I sometimes will get a sweet craving and opt for a tasty tea with some stevia in it. Best that I schedule that near a time when I'm going to be eating soon anyway. Also I seem to recall some study done a few years back that concluded that drinking diet soda didn't appreciably aid in weight loss plans. I found a similar one online. But it's not the same one I remember: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/89/100381.htm John"
