Fitness balls are a fun and innovative way to strengthen and tone almost every muscle group that your body has. They have gained popularity since they can be used in this way and are not very costly. Fitness balls do not require a lot of space for storage and can be tucked in a corner or a walk in closet when not in use.
Fitness balls are also sometimes referred to as "Balance Balls" because they require good balance in order to use. The first time you use a fitness ball, you may feel "wobbly" or even fall off. In order to build your balance, a fitness ball will help to strengthen your core muscle groups in your abdomen. Exercises like leg lifts will build strength in your gluteus maximus, thighs and calves. Another example would be push ups. Doing push ups on a fitness ball requires you to balance your midsection on the fitness ball and push up with your arms.
Fitness balls use resistance exercises to help build muscle. This includes exercises that use lifting and/ or squeezing the fitness ball.
Gyms have started offering fitness ball classes as part of their fitness programs. If you can not find this type of class available in your area, an introductory video is included when you purchase a fitness ball. Additional Instructional videos and DVDs are available for purchase if you find this workout enjoyable.
