Gall bladder is one of the vital organs of our body and the main problems which affect the gall bladder are an inflammatory condition known as cholecystitis and the presence of irregular stones called gall stones in the gall bladder. The latter condition is called cholelithiasis and the former often leads to the latter. Gall stones are usually caused by disturbances in the composition of bile.

Some of the symptoms of gall bladder disease are acute or intermittent pain in the abdomen. Indigestion, gas, a feeling of fullness after meals, constipation and nausea are the other usual symptoms. Intolerance to fats, dizziness, jaundice and anemia may also occur. The main cause of gall bladder disorders is over-nutrition resulting from excessive intake of refined carbohydrates, especially sugar. Home remedies for gall bladder disorder consist of fresh juice of beets, carrot and cucumber in quantities of 100 ml each. This combined juice has proved beneficial in the treatment of disorders related to this organ and should be taken twice daily. But then, diet for the patient is of primary importance.

Diet chart for gall bladder patients

Smaller gall stones can usually be cleared through dietic cure but in cases of acute gall bladder inflammation, the patient should fast for two or three days until the acute condition is over. Ample water should be taken during this period. Thereafter, the patient may take fruit and vegetable juices for a few days. Carrots, beet, grape fruit, pears or grapes are usually given in juice form. After the patient has regained some normalcy, a well balanced diet with emphasis on raw and cooked vegetables plus yogurt, cottage cheese and a table spoon of olive oil may be served. Meat, eggs, animal fats, processed and denatured foods, fried and greasy foods, refined carbohydrates, alcohol, products made with sugar and coffee, spices, condiments and pickles are all taboo. The patient should eat frequent small meals rather than three large meals.

Beneficial

Lean boiled pork or mutton, baked or boiled chicken, turkey, beef, lamb/veal, baked/ boiled fish, one poached or soft boiled egg, cooked beets, carrots, green beans, tomatoes, spinach, asparagus, baked/boiled potatoes, tomato with lettuce salad without dressing.

Harmful

Duck and goose, all fatty or fried meat, canned or spiced meat/fish. Hard boiled, fried or scrambled eggs, all cheese except cottage cheese, sausages and spiced meats, fried potatoes, cabbage, onion, green peppers. Fresh bread, meat stock, chicken soup and alcoholic drinks.
