Although difficult to diagnose, Candida Albicans or Yeast infestation in human body is becoming quite common. However, there are quite a number of symptoms indicating the spread of the disease such as, itchiness, burning, gas, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, heartburn, depression, irregular menstruation and chronic fatigue. The disease is generally caused by diets rich in yeast-containing foods or refined sugar and may be cured by proper medication but can also be thoroughly controlled by proper diet (Candida Diet).
Since Yeast thrives on sugar, the primary consideration should be to avoid sugar and foods that contain sugar. Let us do a checklist on the sugars first. These include brown, white, syrup, honey, molasses, lactose, fructose, maltose, dextrose and honey. Enemy number two could be cereals that include white flour or white flour products, cakes, cookies, pasta, corn flour as also cow milk, diet drinks, alcoholic beverages, tea, coffee, fermented or pickled foods that include vinegar, pickles, chutney, soy sauce, etc. Since mushrooms are just another form of fungi like Yeast, they should be avoided too. Also on the no no list are all dry roasted nuts, especially cashews as they have a lot of Yeast, potato chips, pretzels and Junk food, salt pork, bacon, lunch meats and cheese of nearly all varieties.
By now you must be wondering if we are advising you to live on thin air but the scenario is not so oppressive. The foods you are allowed to take include onions and garlic, fresh vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, turnip, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi and rice cakes, oat cakes, ryvita, soy milks, butter, cottage cheese and yogurt. Also on the list are freshly cracked nuts, seeds, fruits, herb teas, brown rice, brown flours, meats (preferably organic or free-range) that include chicken, lamb or veal and fish, eggs and baked potato. Taking multi-vitamin tablet along with the diet given above may improve jour immunity and reduce symptoms.
A typical Candida Diet may therefore contain grilled fish or chicken with a large vegetable salad and possibly a garlic yogurt dressing. However, the sting is in the tail - since alcoholic beverages provide sugar that feeds the Yeast and stresses the liver, you are to eliminate all forms of alcohol including beer, whiskey, gin, scotch, vodka, rum, red wine, white wine and liquors. A sorry state of affairs indeed if you love to drink.
