Blood Type Diet

What is the Blood Type Diet

The blood type diet was first outlined in "Eat Right For Your Type", which was a popular book by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo. The premise of the blood type diet is simple. The diet breaks people down according to their blood type, and makes recommendations as to different diet tactics, depending on what your blood type is.

Basically, the premise is this: the original blood type is Type "O". The diet theories that people with this blood type will thrive best on a high-protein, low-carb diet. The diet loops through and gives easy classifications to all of the various blood types, and recommends diets that these people should eat.

Not everyone agrees with this type of assessment. It's a rather simplistic view of body types.

Disadvantages of the Blood Type Diet

"Blood type has nothing to do with ... how we handle the food we eat," says Dr. Vincent Herbert, who studies both blood and nutrition at New York's Mt. Sinai Medical Center. He is not alone in his criticism.

A great number of people have researched this diet, and have found very little causal effect that would indicate the blood type diet works. It makes for a good book, and a good theory, but if you're looking for a diet plan to start on, you're better off looking for more a provable plan.
