Ori Hofmekler, founder and Editor-In-Chief of the health and fitness magazine Mind and Muscle Power, created the Warrior Diet. His Warrior diet is built around the idea of building muscle while at the same time burning fat. According to Hofmekler, this is done through eating three square meals a day.
Hofmekler explains his Warrior diet in terms of following the instinctive eating cycle of an ancient warrior. He says that a person can eat as much as they want in one large meal and still lose weight that is if they follow the rules of the Warrior Diet. Hofmekler claims that people can gain muscle and lose weight the same time by using the controlled fasting method. What this means is that a person who is following the Warrior Diet would willingly fast for approximately eighteen hours a day. According to Hofmekler this will guarantee fat burning. However, Hofmekler's diet plan is not based on the idea that you need to cut out all carbohydrate intake. In fact he feels that in some cases high carbohydrate in take may be necessary. Along with the need for a certain level of carbohydrate intake, Hofmekler feels that without eating an adequate amount of carbohydrates daily, people may be unable to resist the urge and therefore do what is called binge eating. By allowing yourself the proper amount of carbohydrates daily, the chances that people will binge is greatly reduced.
As with any diet, exercise is a must. Included in the Warrior diet plan are two workout videos, which according to Hofmekler, are for function over fashion. The goal of these videos is to help the dieter achieve a functional body. In addition to this, Hofmekler.s goal is for the dieter to achieve a certain level of conditioning. This level of conditioning should be maintained over the course of a lifetime.
In Hofmekler's Warrior diet, he stresses strength over size, leanness over unnecessary bulk. He says that in order to achieve a fully conditioned body you must have strong joints as well as a strong back. He compares the dieter.s body to that of Roman solider. Hofmekler feels that anyone who follows his diet plan correctly will become more alert, sharper and more energetic. They will become a warrior and possess the warrior instinct.
