The man who invented the Scarsdale Diet in the 1970's was Dr. Herman Tarnower. Dr. Tarnower claimed that he had created a diet plan that would help people to lose an incredible one-pound per day. According to the Scarsdale Diet plan you can lose up to one pound per day by just reducing your calorie intake and by lowering your intake of specific meats, vegetables and fruits. The Scarsdale Diet encourages the use of appetite suppressants, saying that this will speed up the rate of weight loss. However, similar to the Subway Diet, the Scarsdale Diet results in weight loss not because of its nutritional benefits but because the fact that the daily calorie intake has been decreased dramatically, with the recommended amount being 1000 calories per day.
When following the Scarsdale Diet, a strict meal plan must be adhered to. This diet plan is usually set up for about two weeks; some people may choose to plan for only a week. The meal plan is low in carbohydrates, and fat and high in protein, in addition to taking diet pills and appetite suppressants. This diet plan also demands that you drink lots of water. The water is used to flush out your system and causes the weight to drop off faster.
Unlike most other diets, the Scarsdale Diet does not stress the need for daily exercise. According to Dr. Tarnower strenuous exercise and activities are not recommended when following this diet plan. Dr. Tarnower says that if followed properly this diet will allow you to shed unwanted pounds without over exercising.
People have claimed that you can lose up to 20 pounds in two weeks by following the Scarsdale Diet. They also say that since the meal plan is already laid out for you it is really simple to follow. However, there are drawbacks to this diet. Others have claimed that once they stopped following this diet plan they put the weight back on at a rapid rate. Dietitians say that this diet is too low in calories in order to maintain a proper level of health. While it may be easy to follow it has a strict meal plan that has restricted food choices. Also, because of the high amounts of protein that must be consumed, people are often lead to consume more fat than is recommended.
It is good to want to lose weight and to be healthy but sometimes certain diets stress weight loss over health. You have to find the proper diet plan that suits your lifestyle and one that keeps you healthy while you lose weight.
