I have found that I don't crave sugar nearly as much as I used to.
In fact, I don't really crave much of anything anymore.."

If you run at a pretty good pace for 30 minutes, you'll burn 300-400 calories depending on your weight. You'll get nice legs and a nice tight butt too, if you do it enough. My body literally morphed once I started running. I lost all my cellulite and my legs began to look really good in skirts ;) So if you are up for a challenge, go ahead and try it! And if you can't run for a whole 30 minutes, walk for a while every 5 minutes or so. I had to build up slowly...I started with running 3/4 mile with walking in between, then moved up slowly. Now I can go 5-6 miles no problem. 9-10 mile runs are a little difficult yet, but I'm trying to work my way up to doing longer runs so I can do a marathon!
Good luck girls! You can do it!"
spectrachic311 said: "Thanks Jen :) Yeah, running will kick you in the butt and really make your heart work. I can easily do 5-6 miles at a time now, but I did really have to work up to that. It's all about building muscle endurance and stuff. Your heart grows too! Pretty neat, eh? I didn't know that until I found out that Lance Armstrong's heart is 1/3 times bigger than an average person's. Apparently that happens to elite athletes. Also, it will lower your blood pressure and cholesterol (as will any good cardiovascular workout). That's kinda why I chose to do it...my grandpa died early from severe health problems due to his weight and I wanted to prevent that from happening.
Oh yeah...iPods...those are great for running. Although, I'd recommend an mp3 that has a little jump drive instead of an internal hard drive like the ipod. It doesn't hold as much music, but it's easier to stick in your pocket and it's WAY more durable. My husband got me an mp3 player for Christmas...best present EVER!!!
So yeah, if you want to start running, I'd say just start kinda slow with it...maybe only actually run for 3/4 mile and walk for the rest of the workout. Then build up to 1 mile...then go 1 1/2 miles....then 2 miles....etc. If you can get up to like, 3 miles non-stop, you're doing awesome. Then it's easier to add distance. Oh, and be sure you have really good shoes. Never wear them for ANYTHING except running!!! They should be designed for running, not walking or cross-training and they should be very comfortable and supportive (or else you'll get blisters or shin splints or other injuries...not good!) Let me know how it goes for you! :)"

Sassysurfnic said: "It sounds like your on the right track. I have noticed too when I cut back on sweets ( or carbs, my weekness) I did not crave them as much.
I hear ya on the exersice thing too! I want to start running again [ I hear that's the best way to loose weight and stay in shape(?) ] One of the girls at work here said she just went to a local school track and started running at night. I figured ,sweet, I have a school near me but no track. I know that's no excuse to not run (there are roads and streets where I live ) but they all wind around and have dead ends. I am still new to the area and I think what's holding me back is that I don't know where the streets lead!(If that makes sense.... :o )
Anywho...(I tend to ramble...)My aunt and I opened the pool and I figured I could go swimming every morning (it's an inground pool, great for laps). I, however, can't get my lazy be-hind out of bed atv 6am to swim and then go to work. And I can't do much at night because of school. So I know I MUST I MUST get out of the lazy slump thing going on cuz it's defeating the whole exersice/staying in shape thing.
Anywho (I know I know rambling again) if you still need a buddy to keep you in line ( I know I need one  ) I'm your buddy :D"

If exercising daily is too much for you then I challenge you to exercise 3 days per week.
What is your favourite exercise or what exercise are you planning on doing. I like swimming and try to go twice a week and will hopefully get my exercise bike this week so there will be no excuse for me.
Good luck let us know how the exercise is going."
Jen said: "I've totally fallen off the wagon. Using fit day, I calculated I'm eating 1700-1800 cals per day with little to no exercise. This is watching what I've been eating, so no wonder I've packed on nearly 20 pounds in a year without watching what I was eating. Barely any of my clothes fit. So depressing. I think I'm addicted to sugar. I can't seem to stop mysef! Lost weight last spring because my wedding dress was NOT going to fit if I didn't, and I felt great on my honeymoon. Wore a bikini for the first time in my life. Now not only can I not wear any of the cute clothes I bought last summer, but I would not even want to be seen in a 1-piece, let alone a bikini. I saw a picture of myself and didn't realize it was me....thought it was some chubby woman in the bar.....yikes!
So, does anyone want to sort of use this forum to keep each other motivated? Maybe on AIM or MSN IM too? HELP!!

Jen said: "Well, I have not had children, so my extra 20lbs is all from sweets! :p It's not all that bad, but since most of my clothes are too tight-it feels worse than it might if I had more to choose from in the clothing department! Exercising once per day WOULD be a difficult challenge for me. I might be able to start at 3 times per week....."
Jen said: "I have not been swimming in ages. The pool at my gym is inconvenient-you have to get a seperate pass and drive to it. Anyway, twice this week I've worked out pretty hard; 30 minutes of cardio (treadmill and elliptical) and about 15-20 minutes of weights and them some stretching. Should have gone today, but decided to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure-tomorrow is my birthday plus I really needed the pedicure! Going out tomorrow night to celebrate, so no gym......will try to go this weekend! Fitday is helping me keep myself in check....somewhat... And I have noticed that the less sugar/fewer simple carbohydrates I consume, the less I crave them. Now just to follow my own advice...!! :)"
Jen said: "Your stats are so impressive, Spectrachic-I've never liked running very much, but I've had people tell me how effective it is for fat loss. There are plenty of treadmills at my gym, and I usually walk rapidly on them, incorporating intervals of running. I figure I'll just have to build of my endurance by increasing the lengths of the running portion (wish I'd gotten an i-pod for my birthday.......music makes is so much easier, I've found!!) You can seriously run 5-6 miles with no problem? Wow!"
