Lose 60IBs in a Month?

determinedtolose said: "I am sure everyone in this forum would love to lose 60lbs in one month, but it is not physically possible. I would like to know if you do find a way, I would be interested to see how it is done. The body is incapable of losing that much fat in a month without surgical help. That would be very damaging on your organs primarily your heart. A person would do severe physical harm on themselves. I worked with a surgeon side by side for many years and even our gatric-bypass clients didn't even lose that much weight in a month. The smart and healthy way to lose weight is no more then 3 lbs per week. Losing weight for life requires a lifestyle change and better eating/exercise habits. The most important thing is to stay healthy. Good Luck!"

The only person I know of that has even come close to that kind of weight loss was an old high school friend of mine. She lost 30some pounds in a month, but it was because she was anorexic. Not eating is never the answer, you may lose the weight but you are doing a great deal of damage to yourself. My friend started losing her hair, and she even began to develop problems with her teeth and gums from poor nutrition. I don't know why she continued to treat her body so poorly, even after being told by various doctors she was putting her life in danger, I guess stepping on the scale and seeing the weight disappear meant more to her than her own safety. I think the sad thing is that people are always looking for a quick fix, even if it means putting themselves in harms way. And what I think is even sadder is that most of the time people can obtain weightloss through a very healthy and life enhancing way. Instead some people tend to look at weightloss as punishment, they neglect themselves even more than they had been with overeating and not exercising. I think losing weight and balancing your diet should be a time to really start treating yourself better. I'm trying to think of it as a new start with me taking better care of my body's needs instead of it's wants. Sorry this turned into such a rant, I just feel very strongly when I hear about people trying to lose massive amounts of weight in such short time frames."

waytoofat said: "I agree with everyone on this issue. I believe that 60 pounds is way too much to lose in a month! Please don't try to do this! Start by adapting to a healthy lifestyle. It is hard at first, but with time it will become a way of life. Your first step to becoming a healthier you was by joining this community! Congrats on that! Please be safe with your weight loss and continue to come here for support! :)"

alex said: "Yeah i'm new, but i lossed about 17 lbs in 1.5 weeks, i'm thinking that wasn't healthy but it might be what you're looking for................maybe?"

Heather said: "I don't think it's possible even if you don't eat. More importantly trying to lose 60 pounds in a month seems like a really stupid thing to do. How exactly do you 'plan' on doing this?"

Darren said: "I doubt it. Maybe if you're really young, but that is a big chunk of weight to lose. Why the hurray?"

doctoru2 said: "If you are majorly overweight, it is possible to lose a fairly large amount in a short time. For example, have you see that "Biggest Loser" TV program? It's a horrid show, but the principles of what they instruct are good. They teach proper diet, exercise and restraint. Hopefully the people that leave that show continue on their weight loss paths. But I digress... some of those people lost 10 to even 20 pounds in just one week! That's a lot to lose. However, keep in mind that some of these people were also, uh, very large. ;) So doing ANY sort of change in diet will cause them to lose. Likewise, any sort of movement will cause them to lose. They were so big that it was easy for them to drop so much so fast. Of course, as the show progressed, that type of weight loss slowed down. And that's to be expected. I often compare myself to some blown up beach ball. As soon as you release the air valve on the beach ball, air starts pouring out and the ball easily deflates. This is like the early stages of weight loss - it's relatively "easy" to lose weight at first. Any sort of change in your diet or increased exercise will help you lose. However, if your goal weight is analogous to a completely deflated beach ball, note the extra work that needs to be done. Often you have to push that air out of the beach ball and really squeeze to empty it. Same with weight loss - the closer we get to our goal weights, the more work we'll have to do to get there (or the longer time it'll take to reach it). Now, what has this got to do with anything? Well, if you are severely overweight, it may be possible for you to lose 10-20 pounds in a week or two. But then your weight loss will start to slow. You aren't doing anything wrong, it's just your body adapting to changes. This is a good thing - keep at it. Instead of pushing yourself to lose 60 pounds in a month, do your best to lose ANY weight. If you lose 10, good for you. If you lose 20 - great! And if you lose 30, fantastic! Trust me, if you drop 20 pounds in a month, you'll be VERY happy. Sure, you may still have another 40 to go, but you'll know you're on the right path and you'll be motivated to keep going. And you'll be able to brag about how you lose 20 pounds and are losing more. Doing things the right, healthy way may take longer, but it is so worth it. Good luck! :D"

spectrachic311 said: "Losing 60 lbs in one month is not a good idea at all. It would come right back, because there is no way you could lose 60 lbs of fat that quickly. THink about it: you have to burn 3500 Calories to lose 1 lb of fat. So you would have to consume like, -7000 Calories a day to lose 60 lbs in a month. Nope, not possible. Why not shoot for something a bit more doable, like 2-3 lbs a week?"

Kaystar123 said: "The only way you can POSSIBLY lose 60 pounds in a month is through liposuction....but then you'd also be swollen for 6 months too so you couldn't tell. Oooh you could cut off your leg...that probably weighs 60 pounds. Just take a day at a time. Losing 10 pounds in a month is the safest maximum weight loss per month for the average person. You can lose up to 15-18 pounds if you REALLY push yourself but trust me NO ONE will want to be near your crabby ass then and you'd more than likely gain it back. And afterall 10 pounds after a month isn't as dramatic as 60 pounds...but it is STILL 10 pounds less than what you were and your clothes will still be LOOSER!"

Kaystar123 said: "
This is possible, riight? I'm gonna do it,but anybody kno how I can? If Not,I'll find out how.
P.S. This is such a dangerous comment. If you're not gonna do it then WHY do you need to find out how so bad??It's not possible because a pound of fat equals 3,500 calories. Depending on how much you weigh average you'd need 2500 calories to stay your weight let's say. Well even if you ate nothing and worked out all day long you really could only lose a pound a day. And after the third day of no eating and burning 1000 calories you'd pass out. Your body sets up defense mechanisms because it couldn't care less what you look like all it cares about is that it is running smoothly and not dying. Well at least now you know its not feesibly possible to lose it...even not eating you'd lose a maximum of 30-35 pounds and you wouldn't lose FAT either...you'd lose vital muscle so when you rebounded (as soon as you started eating again) your body's metabolism and health would be so bad you'd gain back all your weight AND THEN SOME. So don't DON'T do it. You'll only regret it later and feel like crap."

missred said: "When I was younger, I too wanted to lose a great deal of weight quickly. I actually thought that I could lose 5 or more pounds a week! Well, that lead to an eating disorder and severe yo-yo dieting. But here's another gruesome thought to consider. Imagine what your body and belly would look like if you lost 60 pounds in one month! I'm thinking of how my belly looked after having a baby ( I lost 25 pounds in 2 weeks including the weight of the baby and placenta and all...) Not so pretty really. You certainly wouldn't have this nice flat, firm tummy. It takes time for out bodies to adjust as we lose weight and for the skin to change and conform."

livelife said: "I lost 40 lbs in a month through low carb.. but it is by no means healthy. I gained it all back! It is definitely possible and because of ketosis, you can loser quicker than 1 lb= 3500 calories but it's not healthy and I would never recommend it."
