frustration setting in now

shrkntz said: "I have been working real hard at losing weight, eating right and doing everything right, now to figure out I have a pain in left leg that won't subside. I left it alone and talked to my gym instructor about it. I guess I have the beginnings of what is called a shin splint. I looked online and it seems to be not good. I have good runners, am careful when on machines and don't work until I am sore, rather until I go into a bit of a sweat instead, no burn. My leg seems to get sore when I work out on the leg machines and now I am being told to take it easy. Thing is, I am on a good regiman and I really don't want to stop. I am so frustrated, thought I would vent. Feeling kind of defeated today, sorry about the rant, take care of your self, sharkie."

I think that it is because I have been walking a lot more and biking more aside from the gym. I stretch always before and after workouts and any exercise. I am glad that others know what I am talking about. I took it easier today, doing less reps with my sore leg and no stepper machine today. Hope something can make me not feel so defeated."

I was on such a strong course and feel like I can't do much of anything right now. I am supposed to have it up and I am still walking the dog. I went to gym 4 times last week, I usually go 6. I feel defeated and lazy right now."

Heather said: "Always be sure to warm up and stretch out before and after every workout. This will help to prevent injuries."

Heather said: "You could look at this way. You have to allow some time to heal. The fact that you're doing anything at all is better than nothing. Take it easy so as not to cause making matters worse. Hang in there and don't get too worked up about something that you can't control. Sh*t happens sometimes."

Heather said: "I have one of those little electrical shock devices. I haven't used it in a while.. I like to use it on my lower back. It is made by Dr. Ho. Ho Ho Ho."

Darren said: "Even if your leg is injured, it's no reason to give up on losing weight. One thing you can be sure of, gaining 40 pounds will not make you feel better."

UniqueMystique said: "I had shin splints for the first time ever about 5 years ago. I got them from playing softball. I was running short spurts, not long distances. I also did major warm-ups beforehand...especially since I was the manager of the team and hubby was the coach....I had to set a good example. I ended up having to see my chiropractor about it. He would put those pulsating, electrical nodes on my legs before and after games. I had to play because we barely had enough team members and it was the only thing I could do in order to keep playing. I sure babied it during the week prior to games though."

Then I bought some decent supporting insoles for my running shoes. I think the combination really helped...the pain went away pretty quickly. Hope your leg heals up quickly, UM. I know it's frustrating to have something like that thrown at you when you're trying to lose weight."

Razor said: "Shin splints can be fixed with a good pair of shoes. I am talking like a good pair of high end cross trainers. I am confused though, you should not be having shin splint pain with doing leg machines. Shin splints are usually felt on when running or walking long distances."

Holly said: "I'm sorry that happend. :o I hope you can get back into your usual regimen soon. Maybe you'll just have to focus more on a strict diet for now while your taking care of your injury. (which is no fun at all!) :)"

Holly said: "That stinks. :o I bet you feel you're leg can't heal fast enough! :)"

Ms.Brender said: "Hey Sharkie! I know what you mean. I had shin splints in both legs back in high school when I was in a musical and we were doing a lot of dancing and moving. I was told it was because I didn't warm up first. I don't know. I do try to warm up good now and I've never gotten them as bad since. Hope you're feeling better soon! Hang in there! :)"
