It doesn't stress out your joints like a step class or something like might do.
Walking is never a bad thing to do either. As long as you raise your heart rate a few beats, it will help to burn some calories."
Fagan said: "What about running? You just need some good running shoes.
But I know it isn't for everyone. Especially if you have bad knees."
gizmonel said: "Hello everyone
I truly love doing my cardio on my recumbent bike as it has a back support
its awesome, it's fun now cause no more hurting.
i just started my weight loss about 4 weeks ago and i have lost 6lbs.
but i don't have a strength machine, is there anything i can do to build my strength and muscle without forking out more dollars as i alredy have my bike, and i don't have the money to join the gym.
Thanks"
pixiechic said: "you can do a lot of exercises without having to buy equipment. things like push ups, sit ups and lunges don't require anything extra to do. for some basic handweights, you can use empty milk jugs and fill them with water or sand to do shoulder or arm exercises.
nice job on the six pounds. keep up the good work and soon it will be twelve!"
gizmonel said: "i saw a total gym here at a wlamart for $220, should i go for it or should i stay with the milk jug thing.
i will have to save for another month but i can prpbably afford that total gym, will it not help me with my strength training."
pixiechic said: "you're welcome :)
the home gym would be your call. keep in mind it will take up some room in your house, too. depending on what kind of space you have, this may or may not be a livable option for you. hand weights are a cheaper and are easy to store away. if you have a local gym or ymca, you might want to consider seeing what their membership fees are. they normally have walking tracks, bikes, and even personal trainers to help you with your workouts."
gizmonel said: "Hello everyone,
i really don't want to join a gym, i have a cardio machine and since so many people have been telling i should do weight training i am getting to the point of saying why did i get my bike, i thought cardio was the way to help lose weight.
but now people are saying no you need weight traing, what s the point of joining a gym just for weight training?
i just spent $500 on a bike that i use every day, if i go to a gym i probably will not go and it will be a waist of money.
i don't, please give me some suggestions."
gizmonel said: "i will try some push ups i guess, but with my weight it will be hard."

Heather said: "I think you need a blend of both cardio exercise and weight lifting to make it work the best. They had a thing on the TV the other morning about how 1 pound of lean muscle mass will help burn 55 extra calories a day. That means that 10 pounds of muscle will help burn 550 extra calories a day. I can see how that would really help to boost your metabolism."
Heather said: "I saw them at Dick's Sports Store. They aren't that big. According to one place that sells them on the internet they are 40" inches in circumference."
Cupcake said: "I love using my mini trampoline. It was $20 at walmart and I use it everyday. Its easy to just put it in front of the tv and jog while CSI is on. Sometimes I wear ankle weights to burn more calories."
Darren said: "I think the Elliptical Trainer is the best. Or maybe the Treadmill.
You should be pretty much soaked in sweat by the time your half hour is up."
Darren said: "You can also look into getting a few dumbbells. Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks and should be very helpful."
cvalh said: "so these mini-trampoline things, how good are they? i go to college, i'm in an apartment style dorm with my own room... it seems like that would help cut noise down of thudding on the floor if i want to do stuff in my room, but how big are they???"
