White Gloves

UniqueMystique said: "I'm going to suggest something a bit off the wall here since you're looking for inexpensive......check the toy department at Wal-mart, K-mart, or Target. They sell dress up clothes for little girls. They just might have what you're looking for."

UniqueMystique said: "I had forgotten about Claire's! I'd definitely check there first. Great tip, Spectra!"

UniqueMystique said: "Yes! Ms. Brender is absolutely right. There's something special about learning to depend on each other instead of your families. We graduated college August 20, 1990. Got married August 25th. Went on a 3 day honeymoon in New Mexico. The day we got back, he left for job training in Ky for a month...I stayed behind here in Texas. I then met him in Tulsa, Ok where he went to a training school for his job for two months. Then we moved to Eastern Kentucky where we knew no one. 2500 miles from everything we knew. We were there for a year and I hated every minute of it but.......It was good for us."

They were more for like, First Communion I think, but they looked just exactly like ones I saw in the bridal shops. I had my bridal shower this weekend. It was a lot of fun and I got a ton of useful stuff. My fiance doesn't cook at all and I do, it's one of my favorite things to do. He told me to start cooking healthy things for him, so I'm excited to try new recipes and making over some of his favorites to make them lighter. He isn't really fat yet, but he has gained a good ten pounds since getting out of college. So I got some nice cookbooks to try out and lots of neat utensils. As far as wedding planning, it's mostly done. Just minor details left. But it's the minor details that are driving me nuts :)"

spectrachic311 said: "I heard about that. Very strange...I'm not getting cold feet, but being married will definitely be a change. I'm moving from Madison to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It's not that far away, but far enough to miss my family and friends. I'm designing my wedding bulletin right now. Actually, I'm procrastinating with that and reading the forums here instead :)"

spectrachic311 said: "Wow, Holly, that's awesome. You seem to have a pretty good handle on doing stuff on a budget. I have been trying to save $ where ever possible. Flowers are going to be no prob. The florist I'm going to is not charging a ton for what I want and my mom's friend is a retired florist and she offered to help arrange things. My colors are navy blue, pale yellow, and silver. I got custom m & ms made with our names on them and for the favors, we put little navy blue ribbons on hot wheels cars and wrote the date and our names on them. They look so cool. We thought about buying favors, but most places wanted like, $5 a piece."

spectrachic311 said: "I'm definitely looking forward to the move. Madison is a nice town, but Oshkosh is nice too. And there's less crime and most things are cheaper there. (Except gas, for some reason). And it's like the perfect distance away....close enough that we'll be able to go back and visit our parents but far enough away that we can be independent. I'm looking forward to it...and so's my dog. She's coming too! She's lived with my parents while I was in college and while I've had pet-free apartments. Now we have a place that's dog-friendly so she can come. :)"

Holly said: "Have an of the brides-to-be out there found a place that sells inexpensive flower girl white formal gloves? The bridal shop where I got my dress has them, I think...but I hate to spend much on something that is going to be used so little. I know there are several of us on here. :) So by the way, how are the plans coming? I'm having a lot of fun with it...so far! However, I've got over 3 months left, so I still have time to get frustrated and nervous. ;)"

Holly said: "Sounds like things are going well...good! I found my flower girl dress a while back at Burlington Coat Factory. They had a whole row of white (I think communion) dresses. It was about $20. I got her shoes at Walmart for $9. But miss princess wants gloves :) . I checked at Burlington (since that's where I bought the dress)..."no, we don't have gloves". Neither does Walmart, JC Penney, Sears, and the Claires stores I've gone to don't have gloves to fit little girls (she's 5). So, I'm pretty much at the point of telling her "no gloves". I will try the toy section though. I haven't looked there at all yet. I've also been stopping by Goodwill and other second hand stores in our area. I figure most people don't have a use for those little gloves after the big day. I know what you mean about flower girl baskets being outrageously priced ($70?...please!). I picked mine up at Walmart for a couple dollars during Easter...because that's when they had all different colors out. So, I was able to find a lavender one. What are your colors everybody? Mine is lavender, silver, black, and of course white. How is your flower situation going? I'm going to be taking a class with my mom and maid-of-honor later this month. My maid-of-honor's parents are growing the majority of the flowers in the garden...which is awesome. I'm thinking the only floral things I'll have professional done is my boquet and the alter centerpiece. You know, I can talk wedding for hours...there's always one more thing to do!"

Holly said: "Yes! I've lived in the same town my whole life so I'm looking forward to a move. We're going to find an apartment first, but come fall, my fiance has been promised a management position. Where will we end up? I'm not sure, but I'm looking foward to a change in scenery and a house of my own. :)"

Sassysurfnic said: "To be honest with you the best place I have found items for my wedding do not have the word "wedding" in the name. What I have found are places like EBAY and just random sites. Stores that sell girls Communion dresses have gloves for way cheaper than a bridal store. Even things like the flower girl basket are crazy expensive! Go to places like Walmart and ACMoor to find the basket (what will it be $2.00 tops?) and maybe throw some silk flowers on it to make it "pop" . Speaking of ACMoor, I got my head piece and veil from there.Seriously if you go to yahoo and type in "cheap flower girl dresses", thats just what you find. My cousin is my flower girl and I found a dress for her on the internet for $35.00.(I'll get you the name of the site) As opposed to the flower girl dresses in salon for at least $75.00. Anywho, my advice is think outside of the box and think where else can you get the same merchandise but not give up your income for life because the name of the store has the word "wedding" in it. Try places like JC Penny's for dresses. They work with many designers for their gowns. Order dresses online. they are cheaper and just as beautiful as getting them in a bridal salon. Just make sure you have everybody's measurments acurate. Anywho, thats what I found so far. I'll get the websites for everyone in a little bit (hopefully by the end of the day) Have a lovely monday All!! :D "

Don't get me wrong - we love our family, but there is something about depending on each other alone that really strengthens the relationship. We now live in TX, and although I'd love to have my parents closer, I couldn't imagine still living in my hometown again. As far as the flower girl basket situation, when we got married 13 years ago, I got a cute basket, spray painted it white, and then hot glued little silk flowers, pearls and lace to it. It was precious and super cheap! Best wishes to both of you!"
