I try to limit my soda consumption to one can a day (I used to drink a TON of it, but now I really am cutting back). If you are going to indulge in soda, it's much better to drink diet soda than the regular stuff. Aspartame really isn't as bad as some people would have you believe. It's made of two very naturally occuring amino acids that get broken down in your body. The only people who need to worry about it are phenylketonuriacs (people who cannot metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine), but they also have to avoid most meat and dairy products as well, since those foods also contain phenylalanine."

I don't like the fake sweeteners they have in them. To me water or tea is much better for my body. The diet sodas have a ton of sodium in them too and I can't have that either."

I went cold turkey in January and have only had water since then (and 2 glasses of red wine). Since then, I've lost all my cravings for sweets/chocolate/garbage and found a few studies that explain why."
