We get our water from the city; our house is hooked up to the city water main and sewer system and we get charged every 6 months for our usage. If you have a private well, you don't have to pay for the water, but it can be costly to drill a well and you have to deal with building a septic tank as well (for your sewage). Some people that I know who have well water don't drink it at all because it can have a weird taste to it."

I was brought up never to drink cold water except from the kitchen sink.... which was the rising main..... whereas all the other taps (hot and cold) were fed from a tank in the attic or the emersion tank...... If you have ever had to remove a water tank from an attic you would know that the bottom of the tank is black sludge..... that has accumulated over years....... However, I now have a 'combi' water system which means that all the water is coming in from the rising main..... as there is no 'tank' system..... so therefore, we can now drink any water from anywhere in the house..... Although I must admit, I always tend to boil the water in a kettle for hot drinking water, though I don't have to....... We are also lucky that the water in our area is pretty pure..... better than any bottled water......
Do you have water tanks in American households ?????
Cheers"
