Men's Work & Women's WorkMen's Work & Women's Work

Always have been. Would rather play cars than barbies. I loved playing in the mud. Even at age 30, my mom can't get a dress on me."

Women......How many of you can successfully do the things commonly known as 'men's work'? Like....mowing, using power tools, changing the oil in a vehicle, plumbing, etc. List the things that you can do."

I can change the oil in my vehicle, check all the fluids, change a tire. I can use a power rotary saw, a jigsaw (very handy with this), and a drill. I can use the push mower, the riding lawn mower, and the weedeater. I've never done any plumbing or electrical work but I probably could figure it out if I needed to. I dug 'every' posthole for our fenced pastureland (an acre) behind us and even did some welding when we built the fence and horse stalls. I laid every inch of tile in this house by myself. I can also tow a trailer behind my truck. Basically....if it needs getting done...and I don't rely on a man...I figure it out!"
UniqueMystique said: "My parents wanted me to be self sufficient....to not rely on anyone else for anything. My dad made me repair vehicles with him...my hands were small and could fit places where his couldn't. I also worked in my dad's machine shop as a teenager. I learned how to sandblast and clean out machines. Funny thing is....I didn't know how to cook when I went off to college. My boyfriend had to teach me."
UniqueMystique said: "Best thing you can do is learn how to be self sufficient....just don't let the man KNOW that you can do all this stuff....or they'll just sit back and let you do it all. ;) I know from experience. :("

UniqueMystique said: "Hey now....I didn't say there was anything wrong with acting like a girl! It's just good to know how to do things when you don't have someone else around to help. ;) I can play the helpless, blonde card too...when I want to. ;)"
UniqueMystique said: "Yesterday...I was tilling up the garden area. I managed to get a rock wedged in between the tynes and the wheel guides. I came in and said to my husband, "I hate to ask you....but I need some help." He comes out and sees the tiller across the garden area...walks over to it....looks at it...then walks back across the garden area and says, "Roll the tiller over here and I'll look at it better." I stood there dumbfounded for a moment...then picked the danged thing up and carried it over to where he was. Looked him square in the eyes and said, "The danged thing doesn't roll...the wheels are stuck from the rock....that why I asked my big, strong man to help me but I can handle it since I carried it all the way over here!""
UniqueMystique said: "He broke the rock out...which I could have done if It'd been on a level, hard surface. What I wanted was for him to do the hard part and carry the tiller to a level, hard surface. *sighs* I swear...if I should ever end up alone...I'm going to be the most helpless woman around unless no one is watching.
BTW....I did all the tilling, hoeing, and raking yesterday.....he did the laundry and put it away. At least he did that. ;)"

1) Change oil in my car or any other car for that matter...including finding the correct filter at the store and figuring out the right oil to use.
2) Other basic car maintenance...cleaning a carbuerator (my old car didn't have fuel injectors), cleaning the air filter, checking fluids, replacing brake pads, changing a flat tire, rotating tires, cleaning spark plugs, cleaning battery terminals, jump-starting a car, push-starting a car (this only works if you have a stick)...um, pretty much anything else I need done I have my fiance do because he's ASE certified and I'm not ;)
3) I can bale hay, stack it in the haymow, drive a tractor, grease the tractor fittings with a grease gun, and fix a hay wagon
4) I know how to use a chainsaw and a splitting maul and wedge to split wood
5) I do all the lawn crap....mowing, fertilizing, hoeing the garden, weeding, edging, etc.
6) I clean gutters, can resurface an asphalt driveway, and know how to change a fuse
7) General home-improvement-type stuff...I can figure out how to put anything together, I have my own tools and if I don't have the right one, I ask my fiance for one of his...if he doesn't have it, we go and find it and add it to the collection
About the only things I don't do are plumbing stuff (cuz I've never had to) and electrical stuff (cuz I don't want to get fried). But yeah, if I need something done, I can figure it out ;)"

I prefer putting on a cute outfit and asking a guy to look at my car for me. :)
I know, that's awful. ;)"
Holly said: "How funny! :)
Did he ever help any further, or did you take care of everything?"
Qian said: "My wife works at night so I do all of it,
Laundry, ironing, cooking, cleaning house (dusting and vaccuming included), dishes, diapers, kid's baths, I'm a jack of all trades. But, I stink at paying bills. I probably couldn't do that if my life depended on it."
Qian said: "Good for you. I really think if a person puts their mind to it, they can do anything."
Qian said: "Hey now. ;) I enjoy doing stuff around the house. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. :)"
Qian said: "I would have rather be outside working than inside working anyday."

......and this is why I think you are THE WOMAN. My dad taught me basic nesseceties of a car , change oil, check fluids,do breaks, change a tire ect.He taught me this when I was 16 and just starting out with the whole learning how to drive and permit thing. As far as powertools go, I have never used them but I'm sure I will have to when my fiance` and I buy our house and we need to fix it up. :D"
