Guess Who Eats Out The Most?Guess Who Eats Out The Most?

When it comes to eating out, eating on the run, or bringing home prepared food, Americans are in a league of their own. Compared to the rest of the world, it seems Americans will do almost anything to avoid turning on the stove.
Eating in restaurants: A new Ipsos International survey of the eating habits of 11 countries shows that no other country eats out as frequently as those in the United States. Americans, along with South Koreans, are the most regular restaurant customers, with fully 60 percent saying they eat a restaurant meal at least once a week and 30 percent doing to more than that. Only 4 percent of Americans and 12 percent of South Koreans say they never eat out.
Take-out food: And on the nights we're not in a restaurant, we're probably getting take-out food. Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they eat take-out food at least once a week and 37 percent do that more frequently. Australians aren't far behind with just over half enjoying take-out food weekly and 22 percent more than once a week. Only 10 percent of Americans and Australians never get take-out food.
Eating on the go: Sitting at a properly set table and leisurely enjoying our food? Not for us. At least once a week 42 percent of Americans eat while they are en route to somewhere else, and 24 percent do it even more frequently.
"In the U.S., the home seems to be losing ground as a place where people cook and eat their meals. As an on-the-go lifestyle has become more and more prevalent, the way Americans eat--including where they eat and the amount of time they devote to meal preparation and consumption--has obviously been affected," said Kiley Turner, World Monitor's editor-in-chief.
Don't feel guilty! Eating out is a global trend:
South Koreans hit a restaurant as regularly as Americans do, though they might be described as moderate in their take-out and eat-on-the-go habits.
Urban Chinese are also quite involved in restaurant culture, but they are real pros at take-out cuisine.
The Japanese fall behind their Asian neighbors when it comes to restaurant and take-out practices, but they are more accustomed than their neighbors are when it comes to eating on the way to somewhere else.
Of surveyed Europeans, Spaniards, French, and Italians are--of the three behaviors--most inclined to sit down at a restaurant and least inclined to eat on the go, while Germans and Britons are more familiar with take-out as well as eating on the go..
Urban Mexicans post relatively modest proportions of between one-quarter and one-third reporting an at-least-weekly observance of the three behaviors.
Australians aren't noteworthy for particularly regular restaurant or eating-on-the-go habits, but they do know their take-out."

I love eating out for the social experience. I've been cutting back on it though because besides wasting calories, you're also wasting money. :o"
