I had a heck of the time that week to motivate myself and go back to the gym. It took 4 days for the alcohol to get out of my system. I even drank water and coffee imbetween. I have pretty much quit alcohol because of the effects it has on my body."

I posted a thread earlier yesterday about how I was struggling to lose weight.
I am pretty healthy during the week. I work out-(run, swim, gym) and I eat pretty healthy. But when Friday rolls around, I always end up at this little neighborhood bar with friends. I drink light drinks - vodka soda's, but I usually have around 5 or 6. The next day, I feel so bad, that I crave bad food.
I usually end up eating bad for the whole day. I usually end up running
or working out, on Sunday, however I am wondering if this "friday night happy hour" is ruining my whole weeks worth of progress. I also feel extremely depressed when Im hungover. I am pretty much ready give the boot to drinking period. :("

If not, you could offer to be a designated driver. That way, not only will your friends all get home safe, it will take the pressure off of you to "keep up" or get wasted along with them. A lot of places will give you free soda if you let them know that you're a designated driver.
Another thing you could do is alternate alcohol drinks with glasses of water.
Whatever you decide to do, have a great time and be safe!"

Not drinking at all has helped me not have to worry about how many calories I can or cannot have in the form of booze.
Not having to have hangovers, priceless!"
Heather said: "I hear you. I would get sick, too. That is when I decided that alcohol is poison.
I was checking out Madd (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) website and found this stat amazing:
Each year, drinking by college students, ages 18-24, contributes to an estimated 1,700 student deaths, almost 600,000 injuries, almost 700,000 assaults, more than 90,000 sexual assaults, and 474,000 engaging in unprotected sex. In 2001, 2.8 million college students drove a car while under the influence of alcohol. (Hingson et al, 2005)
I drank up until 4 years ago, so I know that "it's part of growing up", but like everything else in life, moderation is the key."

It also makes ya feel like crap in the morning and gives ya cotton mouth. I can't stand that. Just best that I don't drink and keep most of my thoughts about others to myself. ;)"

Leah20 said: "Hi Guys,
I need some advice. I am going out to a club tomorrow night for a friends birthday and everyones intentions are to get slammed. I don't want to completely screw up my diet though. I was thinking I could drink "smirnoff one", or "mike's light" ( I don't think they have those in the States) but they are low carb, so I think they are flavored with aspartame. That would cut the calories, would it not? Anyway, if anyone can give me any other suggestions that would really help."
Leah20 said: "Yeah not something I do very often so i'd like to have fun & not worry. Thanks for the advice.."
Leah20 said: "Just wanted to update everyone about my night of drinking. I ended up having a good time, and I kept it to under 2000 calories for the whole day, which isn't terribly bad since I had 5 drinks and a shot. The calorie counting is working really well for me, I find if I eat the right foods, I can stay low in calories and not feel hungry. The weekends are my downfall, i'm never able to keep track because i'm not on the computer very much. This weekend I went to red lobster...ahh...
So good though!
I have been having times where I splurge on the weekends, usually once a day :S
I think it's workin for me though."
Leah20 said: "Try alternating drinks and water. I believe vodka is 70-80 calories per shot. If you have 6 drinks that's almost 500 calories. It adds up pretty good... If you have been eating 1500 calories per day, you could drop it a bit on fridays so you're eating like 1200 calories and having 4 drinks?"
Leah20 said: "I thought she meant club soda, but you're right, if she has anything like coke or sprite then you could double those numbers..."
spectrachic311 said: "I'm a lightweight drinker...I can't handle much booze at all. On my birthday I had 2 Bitburgers and I was so toasted. :) When I'm at a party, I don't like to get smashed so I drink Bacardi and Diet Coke. It tastes pretty good. Bloody Marys are pretty good too. They aren't so sugary, so they have fewer calories. Razor's right though, booze packs in the calories. Fat has 9 kcals/gram, Alcohol has 7 kcals/gram, carbs or protein each have 4 kcals/gram. So yeah, no matter what you're drinking it's pretty much a non-diet thing. Just steer clear of anything made with cream and lots of sugary stuff...no pina coladas or white russians. :)"
Razor said: "Priorities!! Which do you want to do get drunk or stay on the diet. Any type of alcohol has about 80 calories per every 8oz. Now that is on the low side. Most have about 100 calories per 8oz. One 12oz beer has 100 calories and that is all the light beer. When was the last time you had booze? Has it been a while then go have fun. If you got drunk last night then I say be the DD."
Razor said: "
well, after years of extensive research(ahem), i find vodka and diet coke is v low in cals-still get the hangover though! Beer is terrible fattening as it wine.
I am wondering where you get your research from. Vodka and diet coke is not LOW in calories. Just one jigger (1.5 oz) is 64 calories. Most 8oz drinks contain 1.5 jiggers! Now add that up with about 5 drinks and not low calorie at all. Alcohol itself has calories. Most beer has 0 fat!!! So most beer is not fattening and wine has 80 calories per 8oz and no fat as well!"
Holly said: "First off, be safe.
Secondly...now I'm talking as a college senior...if you skip dinner you'll save calories and get smashed quicker on an empty stomach.
As for what kind of drink? After the third one does it really matter anymore? :D
Have an awesome time!!!!"
