Question For Members With Children

shrkntz said: "I have 3 boys, ages 10,7 and 5. They all have access to gym class, and sports inside and outside of school. I could not imagine no pe for kids, they will end up like a lot of us more easily with weight issues. That is sad. Lots of school are going to be closed in British Columbia where I am as well. There is a proposal because of the new elections to close more schools. I can imagine a strike soon, its due time for one again. I expect nothing less."

I was reading that 14 in this metro area are slated to get shut down, and the ones that are still open are filled with violence, riots and gunfire. It has a lot to do with the current LOCAL government. Lots of corruption and missing $$ from budgets."

I think that is absolutely insane! If you have school age children.......do your children participate in a physical education class?"

They have PE every other day and one of those days per week is nothing but exercise and weight training. The school put in two weight training rooms this year...one for the children and one for the employees of the school. My youngest (3 years old) daughter attends a "Mother's Day Out" School. They have one PE teacher for four seperate age groups. They attend school two days a week and they have PE on one of the two days."

In high school they only have to take gym 1/2 year for 9th and 10th grade, I remember having to go every day. but times change. we keep the kids active with baseball, soccer, and bike rides. The winter months are pretty lazy around here."

I know there have been a lot of school budget cuts, but when I was in elementary school we only had one P.E. teacher for all five grades (about 500 kids). How much does it cost to get a soccer ball out or play softball? Come to think of it there were very few P.E. teacher in middle and high school, but we had class regularly anyway."
