*Can a 1,200 Calorie Diet For Life Hurt Me?**Can a 1,200 Calorie Diet For Life Hurt Me?*

I have felt more healthy, energized and full than I ever have since my food choices are high in fiber and mostly whole grains, vegetable and fruits. I like this lifestyle and would like to continue to eat 1,200 calories a day for a permanent lifestlye.
There will be a point where my slow weight loss will stop and my body will adjust to the calories and function on 1,200 calories just fine. Does anyone think this will cause permanent damage? I am moderately active, in my early twenties and I am 5' 8" with a small frame. Right now I weigh about 138 lbs. Thanks!"

You have to have something in your system to be able to burn something off. If you have too little to eat in a day, your body goes in defence and starts storing the fat, turning it into a starvation mode. I eat about 1700 calories a day with moderate to high workouts. Eating more also boosts up your metabolism causing your body to change gears and lose weight. If you are maintaining your weigh and don't need to lose, you need less calories. I am trying to lose weight so for me, a higher workout daily and higher calorie intake is better for me. I drink no less than 4 591 ml bottles of ice water daily. This helps flush your system of any toxins and also helps you not retain water so much."

Metabolism is never set in stone; you can change it by changing things in your lifestyle. For example: If you eat more calories, exercise more, sleep a little more, and drink more water, you'll actually burn more calories by raising your basal metabolic rate. If you eat too few calories, your metabolism slows down and you burn fewer calories. You'll maintain weight if you do that maybe, but wouldn't you rather up the calorie burn by eating more and doing more? Seriously, to lose a grand total of 6 lbs since November (current weight: 114 lbs, 5'4") all I did was start strength training and eating more lean protein (2 more ounces per day) and cutting out cool whip on my fruit. Seriously, that's all I did. I changed my calorie intake from something like 1600/day to 1700/day."

I think most calorie calculators on the internet would recommend more like 1800 calories for an active person at 5'8''. I know that I can eat something like 2,200 or more calories if I exercise...that is if I want to maintain 150 lbs...which I don't.
Sounds like you're doing an awesome job. I'm trying to stay at about 1,500 and exercise each day (about 1 hour of cardio with weights). It has been hard for me to stay at 1,500, so I don't plan on going any lower. I haven't weighed myself recently...but I know I'm taking the slow route. :)"
