shrkntz said: "I have been on this mission for a year and a half. I was told that I was boarderline diabetic,boarderline asthmatic, and now a hypothyroid sufferer. I have 3 boys ages10,7,5 and a loving husband of 12 years together, married for 5. I looked at my picture one day and cried. I saw a double chin and thick arms, no one is allowed to take pictures until I am lower on the scale. I was so embarassed. I was 295 lbs on september.14 2003. I quit the gym for 5 months due to depression and got back up to 260 lbs. I am now 250. The scale clunked for the first time in months. I caught myself again before I went back up. I am glad that those who really chose to do it, truck ahead and dont look back. I see it as stairs. Each pound lost is like stairs in a huge tall building. My goal is to do 75 more stairs and maintain. It is wierd, you just wake up one day as if out of a dream and decide to do it. Nothing can make you, you just have this gut feeling to get up and just do it. No one can make you, only you can. I want to be my high school weight again and not cry anymore when I attempt to buy clothes."

A visit to SoBe Florida clued me in I still have a ways to go... Lots of very beautiful, fit and tan bodies down there. I want to be one of them the next time I get down that way!

spectrachic311 said: "The last straw for me was a point in January of my freshman year of college when I had JUST bought a new pair of jeans after Christmas and I tried them on and they were so small they didn't fit over my hips. Everyone on my floor in the dorm said it must have been the dryer that shrank them, but I knew it was because I was getting out of control. Plus, I was sick and tired of all my thin, cute friends being asked out all the time while I stayed in the dorm watching movies and eating chips ahoy cookies. :(
The other main reason I decided to lose weight was health history. My family has a lot of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity on both sides, so I figured I'd improve my odds."

I gave up smoking nearly 3 years ago, after my hubbie said he had a dream of him standing by my grave, with our daughter( no kids as yet), explaining why mummy was being buried coz she couldnt give up smoking-well- as you can imagine it ripped my heart right out-but i havent smoked since then. I put on alot and i mean lot of weight, and used the giving up smoking as an excuse not to do anything about it. We finally decided recently to buy some scales and to confront it, and i was gobsmacked when i stepped on them. Unless i did something about it, i really would be at high risk of health problems, and i was fed up of being fat and not being able to buy nice clothes. i was also socially embarrased, which isnt me at all, and had been avoiding going out in social situations. So, im on week 5 of my new lifestyle, and feeling better and smaller already!! So thats me, what about you??? :)"

I have danced my whole life and I have never been a stick but I had a decent amount of muscle(I am also 5'7 and of a medium frame) so whenever i got on the scale I weighed more than other girls(who were shorter and smaller frame) who just ate lettuce. I have been told I was fat and chunky from my dance instructor, my high school teacher(we made boxer shorts in home economics and she said if I was anymore "chunkier" I wouldn't have fit into them. This was my sophmore year) and finally in college I was once again told I was fat. Thank God though I never developed a complex or an eating disorder, but it was tough to hear that and especially feel it a little because all you friends look like Barbie. After college, I started dancing again(this time I was at a school not so strict as weigh-ins and such) and I lost weight by dancing 9 hours a week (dance 7 teach 2) and eating healthier and I came down from 150 to 130 lbs. in about 8 or 9 months. I was a happy camper I was thin but not sickly and I still had my curves and the best part was, I wasn't told I was fat.
Well, I got engadged and more bills racked up and I could not afford to go back to class or to pay for a gym membership. Then I put back those 150 lbs. in about 8 months. I want to be down to 130-135 again and I want to have that confidence that I had while dancing. I know it will take time and I don't have access to dance class or the gym but, I can make some changes and work it out. Also another booster is, my wedding dress fit me perfectly when I got it and I will use that as a bit of a measuring tool. I was about 130 when I got it so, my motivation will be if I can fit into that by next August(I have quite some time)I would have reached my goal (and not have any alterations done and save some money :) )
