Commute?

The first time, I took the bus, and that was nice because it was easy and predictable. Then, I had a very short walk, but it wasn't bad. The second time, the bus wasn't convenient, so I drove. This was a pain during rush hour, as 5 minutes variation in when I left the house could give me a 15-20 minute variation on when I got to work. Ew. If rush hour isn't a big deal where you are, though, it's really not so bad. I find driving a nice time to just think, when all you have to worry about is driving, and not doing other work."

It'd be a fantastic opportunity to get in on helping develop new food products (healthier ones!!) and the pay is great. The only thing is...I'd have to commute an extra 20 minutes each way for a total commute of 50 minutes each way. I'm not sure if I want to drive that far, but I think it might be worth it to take this job. Anyone else have a really long commute? How do you deal with it?"

spectrachic311 said: "I think that I'll REALLY like this job, so that'll be a definite motivator. I wouldn't dream of commuting so far if it was for a job I hated. The only thing that sort of sucks is that my husband refused to look for a house in Appleton, which would give each of us a 20 minute commute. But noooooo, he doesn't want to commute more than 5 minutes to get to work. I'm sort of bitter about that, but we have our house now so it's kind of too late to do anything about it. I will be getting a different car though...probably a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. Or a diesel VW, maybe. Something that gets REALLY good mileage. At least the commute is almost all highway driving, so that's a plus."

If I do get the job, I think I'm going to take it because I don't want to just have a "job", I want something that will help me launch my career. And I guess driving isn't the end of the world. I knew a guy who drove 2 hours each way every day to work, so I guess I have it pretty good compared to that."

Kat_the_Amazon said: "In the morning, my total commute is over an hour. Sometimes 2, usually 1 hr 15 min. In the evening, my total commute is usually an hour. If i leave late, then 1.5 hr. Without traffic, it takes me less than 40 min. In the morning, i listen to Walten and Johnson (plug plug!) and that helps a LOT with the morning idiots. In the evening, i just jam to any music. And it works. And i LOVE my job! And they love me... so it's SO worth it."

DrCOOL959 said: "I say go for it, according to the news today 77% of people hate where they work, and thats not just the low level workers, some prestigious people hate where they work so if you think you'll like it, and it is a good place, don't let the commute stop you. My folks both commute over an hour my real dad back east has a 200mile commute to the toyota factory in KY. Sucks yea,....but it will suck so much less in your new car! =)"
