Splenda

I know it's good to stay informed on things....but sometimes....I think maybe we are a bit overinformed or informed without complete data and it causes panic. I guess you just have to figure out what's right for you and what you like. Life is basically a gamble anyways....ya never know what's going to happen to you."

Doesn't really make me any difference though since my dad was diagnosed with Diabetes when I was 15 years old and I learned how to like things without sweetener. He also was diagnosed with high blood pressure at the same time and I learned how to like things without added salt. Goes to show that over time...you can adjust and learn to like most anything."

I like Splenda because it has no aftertaste like aspartame and it doesn't get bitter when you put it in coffee (I only use splenda for sweetening my coffee and tea). Plus, it's made from sugar. All they do to it is change out some hydroxyl groups for chlorine groups (sorry for the little organic chem lesson, guys!). So it basically still fits your taste buds as "sweet" but your enzymes can't break it down for caloric value."

Holly said: "I know there are studies which show evidense of aspartame (our diet cola sweetner) can cause cancer. I still use it, but I try not to have too much. Has there been any link between splenda and cancer? If not, I'll switch completely over to that. It is kind of frustrating...we're trying to cut out sugar and our replacements can be bad for us too!!"

Holly said: "Yes, you're right. Moderation. I suppose it also good to just enjoy the natural flavor of things without added sugar, splenda, or aspartame. But sometimes...you want something sweet! :D I'll look for Stevia next time I'm at our health food store. My fiance mentioned something about a sweetner that is made from kiwi. I don't know if the two are the same, but I guess there are other options out there. I'll just keep an eye out. In the meantime, I think I'll try out Leah20's cookie recipe. :)"

lotusleaf said: "well, we dont have splenda here, but i tend to use natural sweeteners ie fruit or something like that. I dont use sugar, but i think natural cane sugar, brown sugar is the best of all sweetenrs as its unrefined and not full of crap like the artificial ones."

Qian said: "I like splenda, but i usually don't use any sweetner. If i do use sweetner it is for oatmeal or cream of wheat type cereals, and then i use brown sugar or honey."
