Some people like to take non-perscribed medications and I am sure we are all guilty of it but it is harder to quit a drug than it is to quit a food. With your persistance, you can do this. I can tell you know what you want, and you can do this. Don't go for the pills as a quick alternative to the real thing. With a balanced eating, proper consistant excercise, relaxation, and proper rest, you can accomplish anything. It is hard to lose weight, you are right. If you do something for 30 days, it becomes a habit. You have to trust yourself to take the right route and do what is best for your body. There are long term ill health affects that come with taking diet pills. Your kidneys, liver, stomach lining, permanent neurogical affects. You will get used to taking the medication and then be commited to taking it. Once you come off of it, the weight will come back. I had watched a documentary about a girl who was 350 lbs and she took pills to lose the weight. She became addicted to them and could not go a day without them when she had reached 130 lbs. She ended up in a drug rehabilitation clinic and went through severe withdrawal. Her family did not realize she was taking up to 15 or more pills a day. It required she take only 3 a day. It took her 5 years to completely wean herself off of the pills and a kidney transplant."

Very true. You still have to do your work, drop the bad eating habits and exercise to lose weight."

spectrachic311 said: "Unfortunately, they do not work, loobe. Most of them are caffeine-containing or stimulant-containing and all they will do is make you jittery. If you ever read the fine print on the ads, it says to "use this supplement in conjunction with a sensible eating plan and exercise"...well, duh, of course you're going to lose weight if you do that! :) And yes, they are expensive...it's all a big scam. There's a link on here somewhere to the effects of diet pills. Losing a significant amount of weight takes time, patience, and sensible changes in your lifestyle that you can keep up with for your whole life. Good luck :)"
spectrachic311 said: "Vitamins are a different story I think. A lot of vitamins and minerals are necessary cofactors in digestion and metabolism (B-vitamins are extremely important in helping your body make energy). I think that's what the "weight smart" vitamins have in them, probably with calcium and magnesium, etc....all beneficial for helping you lose weight, especially if you aren't eating as much as you used to."
spectrachic311 said: "Almost every single pill out there has a disclaimer on it that says "Take in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise to obtain optimum results". I translate that as "It's basically a placebo". And if it's not a placebo, it's probably not very good for your system. Ephedra was in a lot of those and it's now been banned. Green tea pills are sort of different though...it's like drinking a bunch of green tea all at once, which has been shown to boost your metabolism a bit. It's not going to make you drop mega weight, but it will help a little."
theirmom said: "I like the green tea pill, and I take multi-vitamin, and calcum pill...That being said, I know vitamins do not give you energy they act as co-enzymes to help your body. I take calcum because a family history of osteoperosis (spelling), The green tea does help with energy and it full of anti-oxidents..My doctor says he has patients that take wellbutrine to help with weight loss because it takes away cravings..."
Holly said: "The price of the pills has been enough to keep me away, although I must admit, sometimes I walk down the aisle to look at them and see if there is any new miracle out there...so far...none.
Anyway, the only thing I take is a multivitamin that is supposed to be for weight loss. I think it is probably a gimmick, but it gives me all the daily vitamins and I checked the label carefully before buying. What makes it weight loss friendly is the green tea (the only thing that made it different from the "One a Day" brand). I bought the Diet Smart Walmart brand...100 tablet for about $4. I like taking it in the morning to remind myself to eat well throughout the day...so, a psychological effect, but good nonetheless. :)"

a girl i used to work with took it with close monitoring by her GP as it can nasty effects on the liver-but she lost loads of weight, said she didnt feel that hungry so wasnt eating huge portions. it worked for her, but like lou said, i wouildnt advise taking if off your own back-get it from your gp"
lotusleaf said: "so do yu take that pill as a supplement to your regular healthy food then??? is it mainly water you lose?? 17lbs in 3 weeks is a lot!!!"
Qian said: "Not trying to start an argument, but i have done tons of diets, I have used probably 10 different diet pills. They helped me to lose weight, and I didn't gain it back.
Now let me clarify this statement. A lot of pills on the market now are not made to make you lose weight. They are made to give energy boosts so that the person can work out and have energy to make the workout worthwhile. When i used the diet pills, my workouts where more energetic and had some substance. I used them on a cycle of 2 months on 3 months off. As your weight goes down, your energy levels will increase, so as i lost weight and quit taking the pills my energy levels remained up for workouts. I quit taking the diet pills altogether and the weight stayed off, (at least until I pretty much quit eating sensibly and quit working out) this was for almost 3 years. All the weight came back when my daughter was born, and I lost all my workout time to playing with my 2 kids and helping my wife.
Today, I am following a diet and excercise program without the pills. It took me a little longer to get my energy levels up, but the result is the same, and in about the same amount of time.
I didn't feel that the pills were addicting, of course if someone doesn't follow the directions and takes 15 pills a day, they are going to do some damage and hurt your body. Most pills have about the same amount of caffeine in them as a cup of coffee. I will say that after taking the pills for a year on the cycle I mentioned, i started to get used to the effects and didn't really get any energy boost. That's when I stopped using them. I didn't have any withdrawl symptoms, and I just continued on working out and eating right. The weight continued to drop and I had no side effects.
I'm not condoning what I did, I'm not condemning it either. The decision to take pills is up to the individual. I talked with my doctor, and was very careful about the pills.
I hope this helps. Just remember, most pills on the market aren't for losing weight, they are energy boosts to fuel workouts."
loobe said: "Hi
Can anyone tell me if herbal weight loss pills work.
I know there is no quick fix for weight loss and I am not the most patient person when it comes to losing weight I want to see instant results.
I have contemplated using herbal pills to help with weight loss. I do not know what ones may work and am conerned the only pounds lost will be from my purse.
Lou "
loobe said: "Hi All
Thanks for the advice I did not intend rushing out and buying the energising pills, although I could do with abit more energy and time to catch up on my work but as my job is sedentary I don't think I would be able to sit still long enough to work if I took the pills.
I think the best thing for me is the natural way. Not too much food and loads more exercise.
Lou :)"
loobe said: "I have not heard of it but found these sites by doing a google search adnfrom what I have read I would not recommend taking it without consulting your GP first.

I tried it (for smoking) and I ended up throwing them out because it made my cig. taste yucky. My sister and mother are both on Wellbutrine for depression and both are over 300 # and have been taking this medication for years, neither has lost weight. In fact, my mom never quit smoking either, my sister did and this was so many years ago that they didn't even know at that point that it would help with not smoking. She just realized that the cigs tasted awful.
I think my point is; it will only work if you want it bad enough. I have tried all the different pills for weight loss ($153 for those that need to lose more than 20# was my most embarressing purchase). You have to take these things 3 times a day, I can never remember to take them so I guess I wouldn't know if they work if taken as directed."

I actually take wellbutrine for depression, which I think is the main use for the drug. I personally have not lost any weight since I started taking them. Maybe its just me, but I dont know if they really would reduce cravings."
SordidLove said: "I was curious about that too, I've never heard of the cabbage soup diet, until this website. Personally it doesn't sound to appealing, but a pill might be doable. The website doesn't say much about the pill itself, like what else you need to eat with it, how often, for how long, etc etc. Shed some light on it for us ?"
