Best Ways To Supplement Protein?

Plus, you can get protein from not-so-obvious sources...rice, quinoa, beans, nuts, etc. By combining different foods, you can get all your protein in. But if you do want to use the whey protein supplements, go for it. It's a matter of personal preference. Just be sure you are using something that doesn't have added sugar or anything...it adds extra calories. And if you want to add vitamins to your shakes, iceman, I would think that would work out ok. You'd probably have to use a liquid vitamin blend because I'd think you'd have problems getting a pill or powder to dissolve all the way."

I'm sure many of you know, but just in case. Also to the OP, you could start inputting your foods into something like www.fitday.com."

stroutman81 said: "
Thanks for all of your advice. I'll have to look for some whey protein that tastes pretty decent. In the past I used to use Myoplex (I think it was called.) I'm sure that's still on the market today.
Yea, if weight loss is your goal, you'll find most wheys contain 90-110 calories per serving and roughtly 20-30 grams of protein. I see a lot of people who are trying to lose weight and supplement their protein intake buy something like Muscle Milk. It's very popular right now.... however, it's high in calories and fats. So watch those calories per serving."

stroutman81 said: "
I also want something that tastes good mixed with soy milk. Lactose seems to really mess with me and mixing it with water doesn't taste that good. I might even consider using it as a meal replacement or enhancer when I just eat a salad or something.
As I said before, taste is a true experiment. For instance, I love chocolate flavor VP2 Whey Protein made by AST. I've recommended to quite a few people. I'd say about 75% of them loved it. The other 25% hated it. This topic undoubtedly comes up on every forum I visit. I think the brand I see most people enjoying is Optimum Nutrition. They have a bunch of different flavors. It really sucks to waste money on something you aren't going to eat. I've never done this, but I've heard of people calling the companies who make various proteins and having them send out sample packets. I'm sure they will. Just for a taste test. Good luck!!"

stroutman81 said: "
Thanks for that advice. Maybe some places even have individual packets for sale without having to buy a giant tub or box full?
I'd imagine they do."

stroutman81 said: "
Some of these aren't too bad to taste. Some are though! I cant believe people mix this with water like it say on box. Ick.
I sometimes drink mine in water and enjoy it actually."

stroutman81 said: "
Oh man. You probably drink eggs like Rocky Balboa too!
No way!!! Eggs aren't my favorite."

DBrew said: "Diamond you would be surprised how much protein is in certain things. Most people probably get enough and do not know it. Most whole grains contain protein, most veggies contain some amount, plus you are probably eating meat of some kind, cheese, nuts, or yogurt. my guess would be that you are probably fine in that vein."

DBrew said: "Diamond, my local health food store has shake mix in really yummy flavors. It is soy protein with what I think is a seaweed called Spirulina. It is really healthy. My favorite flavors are cookies and cream and chocolate peanut butter. I will have to see what the name of the shake is called next time I go."

Diamond said: "I am painfully aware that I don't eat enough protein most days. What do you guys suggest as a way to supplement my daily intake? Shakes? Nutrition Bars? Thanks!"

lakelady said: "Yeah, but dude, you should REALLY try; 1/2 cup fat free milk 1/2 cup fat free yogurt 30 grams of natural peanut butter 1 scoop Whey Protein (chocolate flavor) 1 Tblspn Udo's Oil 1 Banana 2 ice cubes It's quite tasty (giggle, TRIPLE post!) Seriously diamond, why do you think you aren't getting enough protein? Any idea how many grams you're getting? Both my sons and my hubby drink their version of protein shakes using the same kind of powder they buy at gnc. I think most protein powders are about the same, but they vary widely in price. I eat mostly meat and fish in my diet, and quite a few whole grains and nuts and cheeses, a fair amount of yellow and red veggies. I just trust I get enough protein. I don't drink any milk or eat very many greens, but then greens aren't a big source of protein anyway."

iceman said: "well... this is what i drink: 2 scoops whey protien (gives me 60 grams per shake) 1 packet weight control oatmeal (maple and brown sugar flavor) 1 heaping scoop of crunchy peanut butter 1/2 banana (sometimes) 1 animal pack vitamin packet (i throw it in, blend it up and drink it - don't know if this is a good idea or not but there's like 12 pills and they taste like a$$ so i'd rather blend 'em) i don't put any dairy products in it. the oatmeal packet is a must. otherwise that protien shake tastes, well... like a protien shake! i drink this in the mornings and post workout (usualy around lunch). now, i'm no diet expert. in fact, i'm just now getting back into the swing of things... but this shake tastes AWESOME!!!! * ANY THOUGHTS ON BLENDING VITAMINS? hasn't hurt me... but i know some are probably designed for digesting in the GI tract..."
