The differenceThe difference

That's why I used to really hate it when people would tell me I should do Atkins/Low carb/etc. I simply love my oatmeal, whole wheat bread, and fruits and veggies way too much to give them up, so Atkins was kind of bad diet for me. I tend to not so much count calories as much as just eat lots of foods that are nutrient dense and not calorie dense. I don't really measure portions of fruits/veggies, only grains, fats, nuts, and proteins. So far, it seems to be working ok. I think whatever plan works for you is the right plan for you. Isn't it great that there are so many different foods out there for us to pick from?"

When someone loses weight, apart from putting their bodies into ketosis, they have to have cut calories. Some might not realize it, but they ARE eating less. Weight loss can only happen when you give your body less. It is factual. Unless your body is sick in some way or are on Atkins. The Atkins diet is not great IMO. It can drastically raise cholesterol if the dieter is eating lots of red meat, eggs and cheese. Dr. Atkins himself had a problem with clogged arteries upon autopsy."

Yet again I have proved myself wrong
I always thought calories was the only way to go. Well calorie counting is the only way to go for ME! The problem was I thought it was the only way to go for everyone. Here's what happened to change my mind:
This woman (we won't give her a name) has been trying diets for years. She has had successes then gained more back. She has tried nearly everything! So anyway, she is giving me this lecture about weightloss and I told her about Overeaters Anoynomous ......... don't know why but I did. I told her it was for health reasons and nothing to do with her weight. I even made the phone call and went with her to the first meeting. You know what? This worked for her! She has lost weight and is still losing.
My best friend beams with energy on low carb but I could not do it to save my life! I know the cravings are meant to disappear but I cannot make it through the first day.
I know people who have surgery (ie: lap band, gastric) and they love it and it works for them.
Other people I know just eat small meals and exercise. They lose weight.
I guess I am a 'diet snob'....... it's calories or nothing. Well I was until I looked at all the different ways people lost weight and how THEIR bodies worked well on one specific plan. Anyone else out there a 'diet snob'?"

I lost weight after each of my pregnancies, a little more each time, but the first three diets were of short duration and they were all different. Then the last one, (5 YEARS after the pregancy) where I lost 100 pounds, that diet was low fat. But THEN I kept that weight off for 8 years on very low carb and I loved it so much I preached it to EVERYONE who wanted to lose weight like it was the only way to do it. Some of those people had wonderful success with it, but others, not so much. Different things work for different people at different times!"
