Normal and healthy weight loss is about 2lbs a week.. so in 2 months you should be able to lose about 16lbs. Try aiming for 10, and then if you lose more you won't feel so bad.. You will need to change your eating style and do some kind of exercise.. I recommend doing some form of weight training and walking or swimming for carido. :) Good luck! Be positive, it really helps! :D"

You have to go with what works for you. The best time to weigh yourself is early in the day, before you eat lunch, and before you excercise.Weigh yourself with no shoes and no bulky clothing such as a jacket. Females weigh more during their monthly because of water retention. Also, some days you can also gain water weight and it may show. On hot days as well, it is more likely you will weigh heavier as well. What helps is drinking plenty of water throughout the day."

Heather said: "I third the suggestions. Take every day one at a time. Make your best effort to eat healthy and get exercise each day. All these days of good choices will help to lead up to losses over time. Don't get frustrated and don't give up. You can do this :)"

Cut out all junkfood. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Make sure you exercise alot as well. You could ride a bike, walk, swim, or even join a gym. Good luck."

UniqueMystique said: "I agree....don't make unrealistic goals. You'll only disappoint yourself and make matters worse. It's best to lose at a slower rate."

UniqueMystique said: "I'd say that your muscle weight is playing a huge factor in the weight similarities. Don't worry about it. If you want to see what the differences are between you and your mom....get out the tape measure and compare that way. I'm sure you'll find that you are smaller than her."

I can't guarantee they'll magically boost your metabolism, but they will probably keep you going till dinner: -banana -apple -a fortified cereal-type bar (shoot for one that's about 130 Calories or less, any more than that and you're getting closer to a meal replacement bar) -Celery sticks with a little peanut butter on them -raisins -dry cereal (like cheerios some other healthier option) -a small handful of nuts (almonds, peanuts, etc.) There are a bunch of other things you could try too...these are just ideas."

theirmom said: "Hi, just wanted to put my 2 cents in, I am taking this great nutrition class....to figure out how much you need to eat take your weight, divided it by 2.2, ; times .9 ;times 24 (hours) (174/2.2= 79; 79*.9=71*24=1704 then the figure for the week is 1704*7=11,928 now you need 3200 LESS calories per pound loss, the 1704 is for basel metabolism, "how you funchtion" exsperts say not to drop over 300 calories below your basel...or your body will think you are starving. and it will slow down metabolism..also nothing will speed up your metabolism, every time you eat you speed it up, that is why eating breakfast is very important since you have not eaten all night..excersice and weight training will speed up your metabolism over a period of time.. Sorry if I confused anyone...and going on and on I am learning so much from this class..."

Holly said: "I've heard that spicy food speeds up your metabolism, but don't quote me on that or anything. Although, adding salsa to some of your dishes sure won't hurt anything. I'm curious if you get hungry in the afternoon or not? You ate a light lunch today. I had a sandwich (lean meat and cheese) and an apple and I know by 4:00 or so I'm going to start thinking about what to whip up for supper."

Holly said: "Yeah, that's awesome. I guess I have noticed that when I'm exercising, I may start to feel hungry, but once I'm done, I have about an hour long time period where I don't feel the urge to eat anything. Sometimes I exercise in the evening to curb my appetite. However, doing it in the morning urges me to not mess up my work with unhealthy eating."

Holly said: "Tropical Lifesavers!!! ;) I think throwing in a low cal sweet treat in each day is fine. It certainly keeps me happy. Why not have a couple of red vines (no, not the whole "1 serving") after dinner or lunch..or a few life savers in the afternoon. I like sugar and I'm not afraid to admit it. :)"

Holly said: "Sounds like you are doing well. It looks like you're getting the hang of checking for calories. For the things that aren't packaged (like your lunch time veggies), you can find that info online or in calorie counting books. After awhile you won't have to check anymore because people typically eat the same kind of meals throughout the week. As for feeling comfortable around your friends, I would be willing to bet they don't care what size you are when you guys go to D.C. They probably will want to room with because you're a fun gal to be around. ;)"

Holly said: "You're active and you eat very little, so, yes, you were probably hungry! I say, have a drink of water and forget about it. :) Maybe tomorrow you should have a bigger lunch?"

Holly said: "You shouldn't be suprised you're weight is similar to your mom's. You're old enough now that you're probably getting close to how tall you'll be for the rest of your life. I don't think I got any taller after 8th grade. Also, it sounds like you and your mom have only a moderate amount of weight to lose (according to you), however, you are more physically fit. (Which is awesome.) Two people that are the same height, but different weight can sometimes wear the same size, if the heavier person if toned and in good shape. :) (just something to keep in mind)"

Also you might want to spread your calories out by haveing two snacks during the day. one between breakfast and lunch and one before your track or soccer practice. I am very active and have a ton of leg muscle on my legs. i know that muscle weighs more than fat. could it be possible that i weigh more or the same as her cuz i have more muscle??? i know that she is bigger than me! finding that out makes me have an extra boost because its really embarrassing that i weight as much as my mom. and almost as much as my dad! i think he weight 155 or 160 right not i weight about 146 ^^ lots like 3-5 pounds depending on what time of day .... another question how come you weigh more at different times of the day?? is that normal?? hope you can help me!! thanks! -shann"

Qian said: "Fruit is always a good snack, and cereal bars are great. Both are really quick snacks, and good for you. Just throw in some water, and it will keep going. Plus, when you eat, your metabolism works at digesting the food. This way your metabolism is working more during the day. If you don't eat enough your body begins to use muscle as energy, and that is not good. That is why you need to be sure to get enough calories in the day. I don't know where you can find one, but if you look online, you can usually find a calculator to tell you roughly how many calories a day your body needs. But to lose weight 1500 should be pretty safe."

Qian said: "That looks alot better than previous. The only thing I would change would be to add some fruit or cereal bars before your athletic practices. That will help you get through the practice, and you'll probably just feel a little better. You might think about adding some type of protein to your lunch. Maybe some lean lunch meat. Have you ever counted the calories you consume each day? It might be interesting to try, and that way you can see if you need to increase or decrease your calories. I agree with theirmom too. You don't want to go too far below what your basal caloric need is. Remember, all that will do is hurt. Good luck and keep up the awesome work. P.S. Don't worry about a life saver, they are okay to have, and really won't effect the outcome. (As long as you don't eat the entire package ;) )"

Qian said: "You are doing awesome. As you count calories it does get easier, you've just got to decide to do it for a day a try. I know if you keep up the hard work the weight will start to come off. Don't worry you can do it hot dogs are fine, just eat the serving size, ketchup is fine, in fact most things are okay to eat as long as you eat the serving size. Just don't binge on things (sitting down and eating an entire carton of ice cream isn't good, but eating 1/2 cup is okay) Also be sure to get your fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and protein. Take a look at this to get an idea http://www.dietbites.com/article1002.html Holly is right, people already feel comfortable around you. Don't lose weight for other people do it to make yourself healthy and happy."

Qian said: "You're doing awesome, keep up the good work. Sounds like you're starting to eat a little more, but looks like you could add a few more calories to get to 1200 per day. That will give you a lot more energy, and will help the weight to drop. Muscle is more dense than fat so imagine a bucket of water and a bucket of whip cream. same size just one is more dense and will have a greater weight. Keep up the great work. You are going to do it. :)"

Qian said: "Awesome Job. Keep doing that for a week and see if the inches and weight comes off. You are doing awesome. Keep up the good work."
