Heather said: "Hello and welcome to Featherish, Kirndog. Congrats on your little one! There are plenty of ways to exercise at home on the cheap. As Lakelady suggested you can put together a little home gym on limited funds.. hand weights, jumpropes, or exercise DVD's are pretty cheap. If you like to exercise outdoors, consider a pool membership to swim laps or water aerobics. A bike works, too. You just have to decide what will work best for you.. you can do it!"

You can take your son for a walk or take him to the park while your wife (I'm assuming you're the dad, right?) takes care of the little one. When your baby gets a little older you can put her in a snugli and walk with her, too. Have you considered an elliptical machine or a treadmill? You could do your workout at home while your kids are watching TV or napping or whatever. They make them very quiet now...you could even possibly just get up earlier and work out before work (that's what I do. I work at 6 am and I get my buns out of bed at 3:30 to go for a run before I go to work). Anyways, welcome! Feel free to browse the boards, read the posts, post stuff, ask us questions, anything!"

The first thing we think of with weightloss is diet and gym. No! we have to be creative with the way we choose to move our bodies during the day according to our lifestyles. If you are so tired that you can't "work out", lay on the bed and do crunches or sit ups. Every bit helps. While sitting on your floor do squats etc. I use to wonder where I'd find the time and energy to work on my muscles, let alone the fat. Now everytime I do something, I think of how I could expend more energy doing something that I normally do! The office joke now is jogging on the spot at the copier! Soup cans can work as weights while watching movies with your kids. Exercize videos can be done with your four year old. A big ball can be used while sitting at the computer. Make time to do little exercises when you feel your body is too stationary and your energy level will raise over time. *Deciding to make a change is the first accomplishment*"

Total, around $45, you just got promoted (CONGRATULATIONS!), you can afford it. use the jump-rope for your cardio and the weights and ball to tone your abs and pecs, and arms. Those would be my suggestions. Spectrachic311 is the pro on workouts here. She'll have more and probably better. Welcome and....CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW DAUGHTER! may she live a long and happy life and give you many grandchildren."

Do those diet pills work?
I can't speak to a bowflex, I don't even know anyone who has one, but save your money on the pills. People who say they've had success with them would've had it without them too. They were just ready to commit to losing weight this time and wrongly credited the pills with their success instead of their own hard work."

kirndog said: "A little about myself if I may. I'm 34 with a beautiful family, I have a son who's 4 and a brand new daughter (4 days old). My "problem" is that I've gained some weight ever since I got promoted off of the streets (I'm a police officer) to the nice cooshy desk job. I'm about 6'5 and am weighing in at 230-235 (a little to big for the body image I want.) I don't have the energy to come home from work and start to work out + it wouldn't be right for me to be away from my family all day then commit to a 2 hour work out. I guess I'm lazy, because with a 4 day old I'm to tired in the morning. My question is this, what sort of exercise can I do from the home (I don't have a weight set) that wouldn't pull me from my family? help!! :o)"
