I just kept doing what I had been doing but I changed my workouts a bit to work different muscle groups and I looked really hard at what I was eating. I cut down on empty calories and ate more dark greens and fresh fruit. The weight continued to come off, just not quite as fast. But don't worry, it'll come off eventually as long as you keep on doing what you've been doing. Oh, and the "zig zag calorie" thing REALLY does work. I've done it before and I think it just shocks your body enough that your metabolism just kind of gets a big kick start."

Our bodies will retain water from time to time and sometimes when we are exercising more it is normal to gain a little weight, the muscle you are making also pulls carbs into to fuel them and thus we hold on to a little weight until it burns it up. Muscle burns calories where fat doesn't so dont dispair and keep at it!!"

Now that I've lost my first stone I'm feeling pretty low as its just not coming off any more, last week I only lost a pound and this week I haven't lost anything and I just don't understand why, I have an active job and I walk to and from work every day I've changed my attitude to food and no longer eat as much junk as I used to. If anything I'm being more strict with myself now than I was when I first started my diet but I'm getting worse results:( has anyone else gone through a slump after loosing the first stone? I would love some advice as I still have 50 pounds to loose! I want to loose 2 lbs this week, so I'm gonna maybe buy an exercise video or something to try and help me.
WELCOME!! Well done on your weight loss so far - amazing work!:) Have you tried calorie counting? The first stone was really easy for me to lose. After I lost that I really had to exercise and watch the number of calories I ate. Have you counted calories before? It can be tricky at first, as I had to write everything down! The more you lose, the less calories you can eat. The lowest a woman can drop to 1,200 calories per day.... that's for health reasons! Try to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day - it helps! Additional exercise is great! Any exercise you enjoy and could commit to? I look forward to reading your weight loss story in the near future:) How is everything going?"

This week you've hit a plateau, (as you will from time to time) a period of re-adjustment for your body. They usually only last a week but I was on one for 9 days when I was only 9 pounds from my goal! It's extremely frustrating, but temporary. Just stay the course, and continue to stay away from junk food, your loss will resume. Try not to obsess on the scale. It can be discouraging. Try weighing yourself once evey 5 days or so. Oh, and WELCOME!"

DrCOOL959 said: "Welcome to Featherish! Wow echo pretty much summed up every technique that I have ever heard out there for people on a plateu. Also keep in mind when they break they tend to go off with a bang so to speak. You wont lose any weight for a while, might even look like you gained some then all the sudden bam, you will lose 2lbs in a day and it'll go steady until the next plateu. Just as long as you don't give up through!"

echoecho said: "hello and welcome I think you reached the Weight Loss Plateau. The plateauing effect has to be the biggest motivation-killer there is. Unfortunately many popular diet books are strangely quiet on the issue -- I guess the concept doesn't sell well. The best single word of advice is to make a change. Don't make the mistake of doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result So what changes can you make? 1. Zig-Zag Calorie Intake Zig-zagging, or calorie cycling is the process of varying daily calorie intake, while maintaining the same weekly intake. Instead of consuming (for example) precisely 1800 calories each day - you can mix it up. Eat 1500 calories one day, and 2100 calories the next. This can be as simple as halving then doubling a portion size, or adding a post-workout shake into the plan. Just keep your body guessing. 2. Strength Training If you are not doing this as part of your program or lifestyle, then it's time to start. Working your muscles will help to strengthen bone tissue, increase lean mass, and ultimately boost metabolic rate. 3. Change Your Exercise Routine So you go walking a lot? Then try jogging, or swimming, or cycling -- anything that will change the way your body is working. If you are doing low intensity cardio work, then try some high intensity exercise 4. Alter Macro-nutrient Intake Although it sounds complicated, once again, the idea is to change what you are eating. If (for example) you are eating a moderate diet that is higher in carbs - try eating less carbs and more protein. There is no need to get super-technical over the whole thing. If you have a carbohydrate snack every day at morning tea time - change it to a protein snack. Whatever you are doing consistently - try mixing it up a bit. 5. Change Meal Frequency If you are eating three square meals a day - start adding snacks in between (which may mean reducing the portion size of the main meals). Eating often is an old and common style of eating - once again, you are trying to boost your metabolic rate. I know all that - What else is there? Some of us seem to have more adaptive bodies than others. I remember when I was eating a fairly rigid diet, having three strength training sessions per week, and as much as seven (often intense) cardio sessions a week. After 3-4 weeks - the fat simply stopped coming off. The frustration was enough to make me take my meal plans (stuck to the fridge), screw them up and throw them away in disgust. I was furious and disappointed. I felt that I was doing everything "right". So what was the answer? Chill out and back off... I was becoming obsessional. I started eating more, and gradually reduced my cardio levels. I gave my body and mind a break. In the process I have learnt to eat more intuitively. Every person is unique, and we must learn how our individual body responds - and how to work with that. I do hope this helps :th_dblthumb2: Em x-x-x"

holly20 said: "hi everyone, its been a while since Ive been on as I took a little break from my diet, I stoped weighing myself and just basically relaxed, and then last thursday I decided to be brave and weigh myself :dazed052: and despite all my fears, I was pleased to see I had maintained my weight. unlike before this boosted me and got me back in the right frame of mind I've gone back to my healthy eating plan and did an hour and a half exercise, and when I weighed myself yesturday I had lost 3lbs! I am now officially 200lbs!!!!! I just thought that it was impossible for me to get past this and it feels so good to get over this tough time. Now that i look back I realise that this difficult weight loss period has been good for me, I was eating alot of 'diet' foods which were great, as I could eat as many sweets as I wanted to and I was also having alot of microwave diet meals which were easy and fast. Its funny, when I first started my diet I kept a bag of weightwatcher treats in my wardrobe 'to help me control my cravings' but I realised that I was eating more chocolate on my diet than I had off it, and I didn't consider it to be a bad thing as the stuff I was eating was 'diet' food. my point is that I'm addicted to eating; I eat when I'm sad, bored, happy - whenever, even if I'm not hungry I'll eat for the sake of it, and having the diet snacks readily available to me was not helping me to confront my bad habits it was just helping me to justify them, I thought I was being great on my diet but I realise I wasn't really giving myself a proper chance in the long run - I can't eat diet food forever, and I wouldn't want to. so now I'm learning to cook, and I make sure I have three meals a day as I realise this is the best thing for me and my lifestyle, I've ditched my diet food and now I'm slowly learning that its all about moderation and listning to my body, if I'm full I should stop eating and if I want a treat then there is no harm in it as long as I don't go crazy. and if I do slip up I'm not gonna beat myself up over it and try to set unrealistic goals for myself to try and make up for it. (like I've done in the past) now I understand why people call it a weight loss 'journey' I may sound a bit cheesy but every day I'm learning more about myself, and I know I have a long way to go but I want to do this properly and if that means that its not going to come off as fast as I wanted it to then that doesn't matter to me anymore; so long as it comes off and stays off. thanks for all the support guys!"
