Consulting your physician??Consulting your physician??
shrkntz said: "I do because of my history with Hypothyroid and depression. I contact my doctor 2 times a month. I also talk to my nutritionalist once a month. I have to keep in contact with my doctor because of asthma as well. Funny though, the more you take care of yourself, the less you need a doctor. I have not been in in about a month because things are going so well with gym and excercise. You should contact your doctor reguardless because if you don't have a trainer, or a nutritionalist, you should have a doctor. That way if you are doing something different, they should know about it."

I think it is one of those general warnings that is ignored by most."

Those with health issues really should see a physician first to assure that they will not further damage their bodies and to get a set of guidelines for doing such. I'd venture to say that if you were in decent shape and that you had absolutely no health issues that you could start any program just as long as you start out slowly and progress up.
I have consulted with doctor's before on how to lose weight and what would be the best route to take. One doctor gave me xenical and told me to exercise. Kinda hard to exercise when your sitting in the bathroom most of the day. Another doc told me, "Is easy....jus' don' put so musch in yo' mouf!"...he was indian and hard to understand...but I understood what he said that time.
I am, however, currently under a doctor's care for my weight loss."

He said that was fine and did an extra check on my IT bands to make sure they weren't tight and said that I should be sure and add strength training too so that my bones build density and my muscle groups offset each other better.
I think it's a good idea to consult a doctor first if you have serious problems...like if you are diabetic or have some sort of serious back problems or are really obese. Mostly it's probably so people don't sue the exercise video companies when they get hurt trying to do TaeBo or something."

I don't go to that doctor anymore. ;)"

*BUT* to answer your original question(I tend to ramble and go w a y off track :p ) No I do not consult a doctor before an exersice program"
