Spring and Pollen

UniqueMystique said: "*Raises hand* Lakelady....now you've met someone that it doesn't work for. In fact, I've only found one prescription allergy medication that worked for me and made me feel like myself. Unfortunately....this medication (Accuhist) is no longer on the market....or at least that's what teh pharmacist told me a few months ago. :("

UniqueMystique said: "I've tried Singulair too. No success. I've even tried the nose sprays....no luck. However.....some OTC drugs help me but they make me sleepy. Benadryl works like a charm....'cept for the grogginess. Sudafed works....but still, the sleepiness. I realize that Claratin is OTC now and I've tried both the prescription strength and the OTC strength....no success. I don't think that it's because I've built up a resistance to the medications....because they never worked in the first place. My allergies are not too bad so far this spring...and everything is in bloom! Keeping my fingers crossed!"

shy_doll said: "I definitely will Lakelady....I have a feeling they will want to try Claritin again so I plan on bringing up the Singulair and see what the doc has to say. :)"

shy_doll said: "Unfortunately I know what you're going through with allergies as well...although it's not me it's my 9 year old daughter. She has a terrible time come spring. She was taking Zyrtec the last two years, but her doctor wanted to try her on Claritin last year for some odd reason...It doesn't work for her either. We had a terrible time last season. She's been having issues this month with her nose again and throat, along with the red-rimmed eyes and just irritability due to everything. She goes to the doctor next week and I am making them give me the Zyrtec again. I hope you find something to ease your symptoms!"

klynnfosh said: "I sure hope that everyone is enjoying their spring. I was until all the trees and grasses put all that nice green and yellow pollen in the air. My allergies and sinus are giving me a fit. I hope that where ever you are it is not as bad. It's bad when you have to go straight from heat to air condition and you can't be outside because if the wind blows you will get sick. Hopefully it is to rain tonight and some of this will get washed away."

klynnfosh said: "I have tried Claritin, Allegra, and am now taking Zyrtec. I may just have to go back to give Claritin another try. I am allergic to something in every season although spring is the worst but usually not till around May, it got hot here early and so the pollen came early as well. thanks for your input."

klynnfosh said: "I also took Singulair before, I was told to take it daily and I did for a couple of months and you know when you feel fine you think you don't need it anymore so I quit. That was over a year ago and last year was not too bad for me, but this year it is crazy. I think I am a little better today, but I sure better re-think Singulair and maybe get back on it on a regular basis. Thanks for the link!!"

klynnfosh said: "Well just thought I would report in, I am feeling better today, but they are mowing grass across the street from where I work. I remember why I was given the singulair, it was for Asthma, which I have only mildly and it is from allergy symptoms. So I will definitely check back with the doctor for a new prescription. Thanks for being so kind and helpful, it makes us feel better just to know others care how we feel."

lakelady said: "Oh NO Klynn! Not enjoy spring?! That's awful! Have you tried Claritin. I don't know of ANYBODY it doesn't work for. It works for all allergies too. We have a little neighbor girl who's eyes used to swell shut if she petted one of our dogs, her allergy was so bad. Her mom gives her claritin now before she comes over and she spends all her time rolling around with the dogs with no ill-effacts. It's safe for children as young as two, though it comes in adult-dosage tabs. Have tou tried it?"

lakelady said: "Oh you guys, that just SUCKS! I'm sorry! I have a lot of allergies but allergy meds have always worked like a charm for me. There's GOT to be something in this day and age to help you guys. I TRULY hope you find it!"

lakelady said: "Hey, have you guys tried this? I hear good things. http://www.singulair.com/montelukast_sodium/singulair/consumer/allergies/for_adults/i_have_seasonal_allergies/singulair_for_seasonal_allergies/index.jsp?WT.svl=2&WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=S2474 It's the only allergy med on the market that works the WAY it does. maybe it would work for you gals who are resistant to the others. (crossed fingers)"

lakelady said: "Shy, that link I just posted (above your post) says that this stuff is safe for kids. Maybe you should look into it as well."

lakelady said: "
However.....some OTC drugs help me but they make me sleepy. Benadryl works like a charm....'cept for the grogginess.
When I was a kid, benedryl was prescription only, but mom had a bottomless one for me because of all my allergies and the asthma they triggered. It made me sleepy at first (according to mom, I don't remember), but that side effect wore off and it still worked on my allergies. maybe you can desensitize to the grogginess Unique. My allergies aren't severe anymore (maybe those childhood allergy shots worked!), but to this day benedryl doesn't make me groggy."

lakelady said: "Oh, this makes me HAPPY, Klynn. I can't stand the thought of you suffering like that. It sounds as though the way singulair works, works for you. You just have to stay on it! There's a lot of meds like that. I think I read it was once a day too. Run back to your doc!"

lakelady said: "Thanks for the check-in Klynn. I'm so glad you're feeling better and hope the singulair works for you again. When I was planting painted sunflowers yesterday, I wondered if I was going to make one of my neighbors suffer for it later! But since we're surrounded by goldenrod here, I don't suppose it'll make much difference. (I hope)"
