The healthy way is to lose it gradually so that your body and mind can become accustomed to the changes you go through as they happen. Experts have long been saying that the faster you lose it, the greater the chance it will come back on you because you won't have learned a healthy way of keeping it off. Unless you make eating the right foods and regular exercise part of your every day life, no pill will help you in the long run because you can't take them indefinitely.
Don't settle for the overnight result - it is shortlived. Aim for something that will keep you healthy and fit the rest of your life."

If your under your doctor's care I'm sure he'll monitor your progress. Like Missred said, a pill (from your doc or anywhere else) won't perform miracles without the diet and exercise.
..and the reason that word won't display is because so many online pharmacies tried to spam here, so it was "bad worded." - Hope that helps explain!"

Heather said: "Just keep a positive attitude and keep at it. Prescriptions can definitely help if you have a lot to lose.
I support you in your efforts, Jason! Go get 'em!"

UniqueMystique said: "I've taken this before under a doctor's supervision as well. I didn't have any side effects with it except that it didn't curb my hunger throughout the whole day. I then switched to another prescription and had great success. I'm no longer taking anything. As long as you follow a healthy diet, drink lots of water, exercise, and stay closely monitored by your physician then I see no problem with taking the prescription. You just have to make yourself continue with the healthy habits when the doc takes you off of the meds. That's the hard part. Let us know how it works for you."
UniqueMystique said: "That's the best thing you can do. I tried taking the prescriptions when I was sick and it just made me feel worse. Better to set them aside and get well."
spectrachic311 said: "The thing is...doctors get $$ from the sales of prescription drugs and a lot of them just prescribe drugs even when they aren't needed. (ie, prescribing antibiotics for viral problems, etc). The drug you are being prescribed is half of the infamous "fen fen" that used to be prescribed a lot and caused lots of health issues. IMHO, I personally wouldn't use a prescription to lose weight, even if it does help you lose it faster."
spectrachic311 said: "My sister used to take dextroamphetamine for her ADD in high school and it's very similar to this drug. While taking it, she did stay fairly slim because it suppressed her appetite pretty well. However, she didn't like the fact that it made her so jittery sometimes, so now she no longer takes it. After going off the meds, she did gain weight because she no longer had it to help her. She lost the weight by just changing her diet and adding exercise, but she did admit that it was a lot harder without the pills.
I think if you take this stuff carefully and still follow your diet and exercise plans, you could probably get a little weight loss boost. Just be aware that you can't stay on this stuff indefinitely, so use the time that you are on the pills to form your good habits so that when you go off the meds you will already be on the right track. Good luck!"
Kat_the_Amazon said: "I know people who have taken that pill and have lost weight over it. Everyone that i know that has taken it has lost weight. Some people do it the right way and 1 person lost weight by only taking that pill and changing nothing else. I don't think i could ever take it (given some of the side effects- dry mouth was most common... i couldn't have that).. but people have told me it was a good pill to take.
*shrugs*
I don't recommend pills, BUT if it helps you without any side effects and as long as you change your lifestyle and with a docs guidence, it shouldn't be bad."
missred said: "I've heard of that before, but I don't know anything about it. What has your internet research turned up, or have you done that yet? I would think that if a doctor prescribes it, it must be ok, but I don't know...
In general, most (if not all) on this site discourage the use of diet pills, but your case is a bit different. You are talking about a prescription, you have a significant amount to lose, and you aren't relying on the pill to replace exercise/healthy eating. I'll check it out and see what I can find too."
missred said: "Ok...here are a few tidbits of info...
From Yahoo Health:
*********** is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. It is also known as an "anorectic" or "anorexigenic" drug. *********** stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite.
*********** is used as a short-term supplement to diet and exercise in the treatment of obesity.
From Wikipedia:
***********, like many other prescription drugs, works with neurotransmitters in the brain. It is a centrally-acting stimulant and is a constitutional isomer of methamphetamine. It stimulates neuron bundles to release a particular group of neurotransmitters known as catecholamines; these include dopamine, epinephrine (also known as adrenalin), and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). The anorectic activity seen with these compounds would thus seem likely due to this effect on the central nervous system, which is consistent with current knowledge about central nervous system systems and feeding behavior. This is the same mechanism of action as other stimulant appetite suppressants such as diethylpropion and phendimetrazine. The neurotransmitters signal a fight-or-flight response in the body which, in turn, puts a halt to the hunger signal. As a result, it causes a loss in appetite because the brain does not receive the hunger message.
Generally, it is recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that *********** should be used short-term (usually interpreted as 'up to 12 weeks'), while following nonpharmacological approaches to weight loss such as healthy dieting and exercise. However, recommendations limiting its use for short-term treatment may be controversial. One reason given behind limiting its use to 12 weeks is drug tolerance, whereby *********** loses its appetite-suppressing effects after the body adjusts to the drug. On the contrary, it has been shown that *********** did not lose effectiveness in a 36-week trial. [2] Due to the risk of insomnia, it is generally recommended that the drug be taken either before breakfast or 1-2 hours after breakfast.
Kind of sounds scary..."

Any way This drug has caused numerous Siesures and other complications that the fda is looking into. I personaly would not use it There is a Extreamly High Risk of Dependency and if you are not careful It could be the first and last diet pill you ever take, Sorry to put it that way I had a friend that was on it he never had a siesure in his life he Had no family history of it and no other things that would point to him being Epileptic He took the drug for about 6 months and was doing fine About the 7th month his wife found him In bed Tossing around He had bitten his toung off and spilled his coffee every where. Thay said that thay could not explain it at his age and things other than possibly being this medication. So im not attempting to diswade you from trusting your doctor and all but i would look into this thing a little more before you take it too long remember if you dont like what it sounds like you can always just tell him your conserns and see what he says and if you both agree then change the pill.
Sorry To Be such a wet noodle.

Is he requiring you to weigh in weekly while your using this medication?"

I used it one time with prescription from doctor.
My results were some wait loss at first because my appetite went away. But it returned again after 30 days or so and I was always thirsty."
JasonMinus100Pounds said: "So today is the first day of taking this pill the doctor prescribed. I tryed to put it into my journal and soon realized its name is filtered by the forums :signs053:
This got me thinking, obviously. Is this pill proven bad or was it blocked due to people trying to advertise it maybe? I'd like to know either way.
However, more importantly is if this pill has caused members harm..I need to know! The pills name is 'phe nter mine'.
So far it has certainly lowered my appetite. I think it might have given me a slight energy boost also. I am as sick as a dog right now plus i generally have a high tolerance to meds so I am surprised i noticed anything at all.
I am all for loosing wieght as fast as possible while doing it in a healthy fashion. My doctor said he trusts this prescription and has had great success with it for many years. However I am open to opinions on the topic. My main concern is not eating often enough to keep my body out of 'starvation mode' in which I start storing fat. Don't want that!
Thanks for any experience or insight into this diet pill
Thanks
Jason"
JasonMinus100Pounds said: "OK thanks for getting the definition. You are right when you say it sounds kind of scary.
I do however trust my longtime family doctor. He told me he was starting me on half of a dose and wants a follow up in a week, so I'll be monitored. He also said he had been using this particular one for many years with good success. I'm not too worried.
Has anyone ever taken this for any period of time? Care to share the effects and efectiveness as a weightloss aid?"
JasonMinus100Pounds said: "Ah ha! So i was right. Thanks for the clarification Heather :)
I am not looking for a miracle drug. I am looking to turn my life around permanently. Not just wieght but also strength, stamina, attitude, self image..and I am willing to work for that! It's the only way to do it 'right', truly.
I will add comments regarding the pills effects and effectiveness in my journal and I unfold its mysteries :)"
JasonMinus100Pounds said: "I had a feeling the use of this would be controversial in general. Especially in a setting such as a health forum. I appreciate your concern and comments. However, I personally asked for a perscription to aid me. The Doc was far from being a pusher of the stuff. He was apprehensive (BP) and started me on a lower dose than is typical. He also mentioned beta blockers and we spoke of other methods as well.
I am going to try the product under my doctors supervision and see how it works for me. I actually went out and bought my own professional grade BP/heart rate machine yesterday to monitor myself as I push through this transformation. Getting these 300+ pounds to sustain cardio workouts for 30+ minutes will be monitored for instance. Also...
*update*
It seems that my BP check at the doctors was inflated due to being nervous/worked up over being so sick and typical 'clinic fever'. I have now verified that my resting BP averaged out to around 120 / 65, which is WAY better than at the doctors office.
I actually just finished a 30 minute cardio workout roughly 15-20 minutes ago and only just sat down 5 minutes ago. I just took my BP again and its 126 / 65.
SO this i good news that I will be sharing with the Doc as well."

We havent gotten that far yet so Im not sure if he will want that or not. Thusfar he was mainly concerned about my inflated BP and wanted to see me regarding it after a week of use. I have since realized the BP wasnt accurate and Im actually well within healthy ranges.
I'll update this thread as I use it and see what the doctor says. I am not taking it now as I am pretty sick."

I agree with your philosophy 100% and that is what my entire plan is based on. I am NOT taking the easy way out or the 'overnight result' path. I am eating right, exercising and leading a healthy lifestyle. I am approaching the prescription as a trial and am being smart about it. My main desire from it is to get a bit of an energy boost to help get these 300 pounds moving! I am 100 pounds over weight here. (Anyone not familiar with this challenge, feel free to pick up two 50 pound dumbells and go have a jog or hop on your stairstepper!)
I don't mean to have an attitude or offend. I appreciate peoples concern, really i do. Loosing 100 pounds is NOT going to be a fast or easy venture no matter how i approach this. Thats even if i was abusing drugs, starving myself or other such BS to 'cheat' my way through it. It most certainly will be a challenge and take a lot of time the way that I am dedicated to doing it. If this pill can help me to be more active without hurting my BP and the Doc says I am OK on it..I dont see a problem with its use.
Again, once i get better and start taking these, I will report how they work for me."
JasonMinus100Pounds said: "Thanks Heather :) You are a pal!
I havent been taking the diet pills while Ive been sick so no reports to give yet. Health first then supplements!

Thanks again Angie and best of luck with your dieting!

I was always pretty small until I had my baby and then I gained a whopping 88 pounds with her! It has been so hard to lose the weight and I have almost felt addicted to food. So the doctor prescribed these pills for me. I personally love them! They have totally taken away my appetite. I dodn't even crave anything. They have also given me extra energy. The first month I was on them I lost 16 pounds and have continued to lose. I truly feel like I have gotten my life back and am no longer controlled by food. The only side affects I noticed were constipation and dry mouth, but with the dry mouth it has actually mad me drink more water so that is good. I'm sure that you will have good result and I wish you the best of luck!!!"
