to tattoo, or not to tattoo, that is the question (sorry, Shakespeare!)to tattoo, or not to tattoo, that is the question (sorry, Shakespeare!)

I've never went under the gun because I hate needles, but it I had I'm not quite so sure the "Marvin the Martian" I thought was cool when I was 23 would be quite so cool today.. LOL..
..and if you don't, be proud of that scar anyhow. It just proves that you have some experience in life, that all!"

If you want one, and it looks cute, that's what matters."
UniqueMystique said: "If it were me.....I would do it. Not because of vanity....but because I'm 52....look great in a bikini....and others frown upon it. Just the rebel in me....I tend to do the unexpected quite often. Just make sure that it's something that you really like. I have a suggestion though. Find a tattoo artist that will stencil it on for you....and maybe even color it in for you with washable markers (they make pens for fake tattoos....I used to have some but can't remember where I bought them) or an airbrush system....see if you can live with it before you get the actual tattoo. :)"
UniqueMystique said: "It probably won't hurt as much as it would on someone who hasn't had c-section. Lots of times the nerve damage from the c-section keeps one from feeling much in that location. You might have an easier tattoo time than most. :)"

I personally wouldn't get one because of the pain, but if they didn't hurt and if they weren't so permanent, I'd get one. I think if you do one on your abdomen, it shouldn't hurt QUITE so bad as if you got one on a thinner part of your skin.
So, what kind of design would you get? The vines with the flowers? Just think long and hard about the design because it's gonna stay there a LONG time. And who says you're too old for a tattoo? Lots of old people get them. Better to get it once your skin's already a little saggy rather than when you're a teenager....I knew a girl who got a tat on her tummy and 2 pregnancies later, you can't really tell what it is anymore because it got kind of warped looking.
Show us pics if you decide to get it!"
GreenEyes said: "I say go for it! You only live once right? Express yourself and have fun.
I agree with finding a good artist that knows what they are doing."
DBrew said: "I think tats are a really cool way to express yourself no matter your age. I have one on my lower right abdomen and I do not regret it at all. can cover it when I want and show it off when i want. It also motivates me to stay in shape, which is not a bad thing.
If I were you, I would be excited to get one before my vacation so I could show it off."
klynnfosh said: "I personally would not get one, but that is just me. I say as everyone else if you really want it then why should age have anything to do with it. You are as young as you feel and if it gives you the confidence to wear a bikini and you want to then why not go for it!"
missred said: "First of all, vain or not, you should be proud of how you look, and who wouldn't want to show off a bit? I would! And you aren't too old for a tattoo. My mom is 54 and decided to get a henna tattoo (on her boob!) just to see what she thought of the idea. She was concerned my dad would flip out (and he probably would) if she got a real one. She enjoyed the henna tattoo, and I won't be surprised if she eventually does get a real one. You only live once, she says!"

If I were you I would find a reputable tattoo artist in your area and just go and talk to him.
I know lots of good tattoo artists won't tattoo over a scar. It all depends on how deep & bad & new the scar actually is.
Since you had a c-section though I am assuming that the scar will be well over 2 years old. In which case it might be do-able.
I have heard that scar tissue sometimes doesn't take ink very well. But like I said you would actually have to have an artist look at it and have him make the judgement call.
And congrats on the awesome body!!
Hopefully I'll see myself wanting to buy a bikini someday..
:)"

I know that you are proud of yourself, like the rest of us are proud of you, now is the time for you to show the world that you are happy with yourself. If you 100% want the tattoo go for it. Just be sure it is something that you can live with for the rest of your life. I agree with the others. Do the research. check out places. Veiw samples of there work. Have them show you where it will be done and what it will be done with. Make sure that they use every thing they can to insure that there equipment is sterile. If you are going to get it done, makesure that you get it done saftly. Oh and one more thing. I read some articles a few months back about some people getting heavy medel poisining from tattoo ink. I would ask about the type of ink the places use and make sure that there has not been any links between that type of ink and heavy metel posioning.

The bad thing about this site is that you have to pay to get any of the designs, But here is the best thing that I am thinking might be good for you LakeLady, this site sells temperary tattoo transfer paper. If you find one on the internet you like stick the paper in the printer print out the design, fallow the directions and there you go. THe tattoo you like, just in temperary form, that way you can see if you truely like the way it looks on you.

I am SO HAPPY that you looked great in a bikini. YAH!!!:th_dblthumb2:
That's my long-term goal.
I don't think it's vain. No, I do not think age is a barrier. Besides, you look very young and you are very attractive. Also, your hair colour looks fantastic!
I would just say research and make an informed decision.
We all do things to make ourselves look better and I, personally, do NOT consider that to be vain. I dye my hair, wax off hair, put on make-up and if a tat was going to make me look hot in a bikini I would do it in a heartbeat.
I would speak to several tat places. Do some research.
Sorry.... it's a bit of a wish-washy answer!
Have a great day!
Cheers

I have 17 bottles of nail polish, many of them used once. I change the color of the trim on our house EVERY YEAR! (good thing the rest of it is made of stone, or the paint volume would be incredible!) I have three different sets of hubcaps for my car and FOUR sets of slipcovers for the den furniture. I re-arrange furniture at LEAST once a week. Maybe I don't have quite the personality for something permanent!.... Then again, the scar is permanent, isn't it? Oh... I don't know....Anyway, it's not like I'm on a deadline to decide a way to world peace. Thanks for all your input!"
lakelady said: "OK, I can't remember who it was, but some member here got a really pretty tattoo on her foot a couple of months ago. I really liked the pics of it! A couple of days ago I was shopping in resort wear for swim suits for Jamaica. I've got some old ratty ones I wear under my scuba gear, but we're staying at a really nice place so I wanted a couple of 'glamor' suits and I did find two maillots that I loved, (my legs are my best feature) My daughter talked me into trying on a bikini just for grins. When I did I was pretty happy with my weight loss, no rolls of fat anywhere and pretty darn good definition for 52. I told my daughter that if it wasn't for my c-section scar, I'd buy it. She said I should get a really pretty, feminine tattoo over it. I DO actually know a couple of women who have done this, and I've seen a lot of others, but they were younger women than myself. Nonetheless, I found myself considering it. WELL....I broached the subject to my husband, (who has an airforce tattoo himself, by the way) and I thought he was going to have a stroke! He was violently opposed to the idea, and since this is the same man who never ONCE mentioned my weight gain when I topped 200 pounds, and since I really didn't care that much, I dropped the idea. Then last night I was cleaning my teens room (talk about your biohazard!) and I came across some of those press on plastic tattoos, that are actually pretty realistic (for about 10 minutes). For giggles I cut out one that was meant (I think) to go around a wrist (It was a vine with flowers and butterflys entwined in it, very delicate) and applied it over my scar.Later, when we were undressing for bed, my husband saw it and nearly shouted, ''Oh my GOD! Karen, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!'' He was so shocked that I told him it was fake immediately and he sat down on the bed in relief. Then he glanced up and began to really look and he said, ''you know, it isn't really that bad, if you really want to do it I could live with it'' My friends say I'm way too old for a tattoo, my sons agree, my daughters think it would be cool. I'm not talking about having it done in time for Jamaica, but maybe in time for next summer. I'm asking you guys, TELL THE TRUTH, is it utterly vain and pathetic for me to even consider this? After all, I haven't worn a bikini since Dane was born, I think I can probably live without it by now.Just want to know what you think, Thanks!"
lakelady said: "GAAAH, I was nervous enough when I had CK on my eyes!! Actually cutting one open. NO THANKS! really cool picture though, I've never seen anything like it. Thanks for sharing. As for me, I still haven't decided, but my hubby's having a great time with the markers! He likes to draw 'examples' on my tummy. Good thing he's a pilot and not a tattoo artist! Still....lots of fun!"

I hear tat's over bone is the worst tat associated pain, so at least it SHOULD be less painful then getting one on your ankle. Me personally I wouldn't get one. All natural, don't need ink under the skin, if you want to see something spooky, look for eye jewelry, where they insert metal under the first layer or so of the white of your eye...I'll get a picture, one second..got it, lastly from what I hear you look great, so why distract your audience :)
