angel_rising said: "Dont feel bad about not knowing what one is. When I asked my husband what one is he was able to pull one out for me. I had them in my own house and did not even know what it was. OOPS Angel:th_angelsmiley4:"

John_KY said: "Thanks! Got to try that one. Always wondered about what Rutabaga were. Have used turnips as potato replacement in soups for years. Never thought about "fries". And while on the subject of potatoes... Have also used cooked, pulverized cauliflower as a mashed potato replacement at holiday meals. A little different from potatoes, but not at all bad. If you've not eaten potatoes in years (like us) it might fool you. John"

I'll keep searching and inform you of what we call them here when I finally locate them. The picture is of great help because I do not have to go into a long winded explanation of what it looks like! Have a great day! Cheers Michelle "

help6363 said: "Thanks for the photgraph, lakelady :) ..... and your kind words, fallen_angel! :) Still cannot find any in the Fruit and Veg shops. I have even taken a print out of the picture to show them...no luck.... tell you what the chips are like when I finally track them down! Have a great day! Cheers Michelle "

help6363 said: "Thanks for the recipe! Just one thing: what is rutabaga? I'm guessing that is that some sort of sweet or turnip! Went to a couple of Fruit and Veg shops and they couldn't help. Oh well... guess it's true... most people say WA Australia.... stands for 'Wait Awhile' in Australia... LOL Have a great day! Cheers Michelle "

lakelady said: "Wow, I didn't know that, bet that's the problem then..."

lakelady said: ":) Maybe they don't HAVE them in Australia, or they're called something else. I was in England and asked for a rollaway cot for my youngest in the kid's hotel room and they brought me a crib. That's what they call it there. He was four at the time and didn't want 'that BABY bed'! I've been all over Europe and much of south and central america, and even to Hawai'i twice, but I've NEVER been to Australia and I REALLY want to go! You gave us AC/DC and Mel Gibson after all, (thank-you) and I want to dive the Great Barrier Reef. I watch 'crocodile hunter' all the time just so I can see the scenery!"

lakelady said: "Here's a picture, some of them have kind of white stripes. They look a lot like a huge turnip!"

lakelady said: "Hey, I tried this recipe I found on a low-carb site today. I used garlic salt (just a little) for seasoning. They were GREAT, very satisfying, and only 7 carbs in the fries you get from one large rutabaga, (a whole big cookie sheet full!) This is the first time I've ever eaten rutabaga, so I was pleasantly surprised! Here it is (it's short, so I'm just going to put it right in the post instead of an attachment) Oh,...it's very low calorie as well! 1 large rudabaga - peeled and cut up like fries butter or olive oil no-stick spray Salt and pepper (you can use any seasoning you would like) How To Prepare: Preheat oven to 425 degrees, spray baking pan with no'stick,Peel rudabaga and cut up like fries, Spread fries in one layer on greased baking pan, spray thoroughly with spray, Salt and pepper to taste. Bake for 20 minutes, turn fries over and bake for another 20 minutes. Enjoy! :whacky043:"
