Totally!
What happend to freedom. Even the freedom to eat those unhealthy fries if you want to. You have to deal with the consequences of your own actions. It's part of life."

It was voted in last Tuesday.."
Heather said: "I don't know about that one.. I wonder how much it'll cost to enforce that law?
Almost 25,000 restaurants sounds like a lot to "monitor." that'll have to cost the taxpayers a lot of $$.."

cvalh said: "I personally think this is ridiculous. The government should NOT monitor what we eat. Banning smoking in restaurants is one thing, but "second hand fat" is not something we're worried about. Yes, a fat nation is bad, but really, if these people want fatty stuff, they'll find it somewhere else. We need to be responsible for ourselves, not have the government telling us what we can and can't eat."

That didn't turn out so well either...way too much involvement in people's business. If someone really wants Cheetos, they'll get them somehow. I think it's ridiculous for the government to have to step in that far. What they need to be doing is encouraging the consumption of healthier foods and educating people to let them know that trans fat foods are just not good for them. Then let people make their own decisions based on the facts."
glitter girl said: "I heard and saw an article about the government possibly banning food with trans fat or prepared with trans fat being illegal. I think this is good and bad. I don't think the government should have to babysit us but if people can't control themselves then it is a good idea. I think it will be funny to see if restaraunts will be charged with breaking the law if they use trans fatty things. haha.... anyone elses opinion?

klynnfosh said: "I agree the government should be more concerned with education the next generation than trying to control what we eat. We know fat is bad for us but there are so many young people who do not realize how much fat is in their diets or how much harm all the junk they eat really does to them later in life. Since young people have been eating junk most of their teen life and into early adulthood they finally start to pack on pounds and think I need to lose weight, but by then the way the eat is a lasting habit that is hard to break. The government needs to stick to trying to run this country and leave what few freedoms we still have alone."

I think this kind of says it all.
As for the smoking thing, I find that crazy as well. The government has no business telling the business owners who put their time, money, risk, and sweat into their business what they can and cannot do. If they want to be nonsmoking then good for them. If not, then that is their choice. The important thing here is that they are free to make their own decisions. Just like we are free to visit whatever businesses we want.
Scary days ahead I'm afraid. The flock is growing."

Ive never done it. Whats it like? :whacky011:"
mahesh67 said: "I dont think the government should monitor what people eat. But I think the government should set up standards about eating. And they should regulate food marketing."
mahesh67 said: "I dont know about ban. But I think the govt should take strong stand against bad food selling practices. A fat nation is not good."
John_KY said: "This is a classic example of the victimless "crime".
Government regulation never solves anything (except maybe employing more people in superfluous jobs or expanding departments budgets at the expense your taxes).
I'm all for personal responsibility. How about letting people be accountable for their own actions and leaving their rights intact?
Full disclosure is nice. Nice to know what is in fact in the food you're eating. But to remove choice...that's simply draconian.
Won't get off on a political rant here, but I guess I must be libertarian or something. Think folks ought to be left alone. Left to do whatever in the world that they want unless they directly infringe on the rights of another person. When that happens, people ought to be held fully accountable.
Making illegal acts out of what people voluntarily do to themselves is unmitigated foolishness and is destructive to the legal pillars that support what is left of personal freedom in this country.
