Thoughts on Plastic Surgery?Thoughts on Plastic Surgery?
Candace S said: "I think a lot of people get really great results from plastic surgery. I think there are two keys to getting what you want out of it. Key #1: Don't cheap out. If boob jobs are going for $5,000-$7,000, don't go find one for $3,000. And Key #2: Don't go overboard. It's probably hard to drop that much money just for small changes, but I really think that's where people run aground."

Hehe you could end up looking even WORSE than you started! There isn't a WRONG way to look. Jeez... people these days *shakes head*"

SICK! *gags* But I guess if it's for something that's not just 'for looks' and it's because it's for your health it's good. But Joan Rivers. SICK!!!!!!! Ewwwwness. >O<"
Heather said: "The one nice thing is that in most cases skin is elastci and will bounce back to some degree.
If you were to lose a massive amount of weight in a short period of time you'd have more to worry about.
The only surgeries I've had done was getting my tonsils removed and having a mole removed from near my hairline a long while back."
Heather said: "I was interested to find out what everyone here thought about plastic surgery?
I don't like the thought of going underneath a knife, so I don't think I'd ever do it myself..
Has anyone here had a procedure done?"
Darren said: "I'm pretty sure that most people who don't want plastic surgery are going with the attitude of "just being myself".
I sort of figure, almost all cases of plastic surgery for strictly cosmetic reasons are probably not a good idea. This is especially true if the introduce a health issue that didn't exits before hand.
The plastic surgery horror stories are really hard to listen to. Some people are suffering from botched surgeries."
Darren said: "I'm not volunteering for surgery. No way!"

spectrachic311 said: "wildlove--Title Nine sports sells something called "the frog bra" or something like that. It's only for women with DD and bigger sized breasts and it is guaranteed to make you not bounce. It looks like it'd work fairly well in the picture, but it's definitely not very stylish :) I guess I'm kind of lucky since I just have to wear a little sports bra to keep the girls in place ;)"
spectrachic311 said: "Freestyler...you're not being naive at all, you're absolutely right. When I lost weight at first, my skin was kind of saggy because I wasn't working out yet and like most people, I lost more quickly at first than I did later. I started running and doing strength training and now I barely have any loose skin at all. I think a big part of it is how much you lose and if you exercise and strength train. I guess since I never thought of a tummy tuck as an option, I decided working out would have to be as far as I'd go to get my skin back. I must say, I'm pretty satisfied with my body now. Although, I've thought somewhat seriously about breast implants. Then I think about how much I love running and not having to worry about my boobs jumping up and down. I can always wear a Wonderbra, I suppose :)"
spectrachic311 said: "Truthfully, when I was losing weight, I had no idea that your skin would be loose afterwards. I didn't care, I just wanted the weight gone! And to be honest, if you lose weight slowly and exercise enough, the skin issues will be minimal. I've seen pictures of people that have tons of loose skin because they lost lots of weight very rapidly and in that case, I can see getting an operation to remove that. I guess I wouldn't take the risk of having the operation not go well. I've seen too many "plastic surgery horror stories" where people get botched breast implants that look really weird or a nose job that looks bad or whatever. Sometimes, you may not even be a good candidate for the surgery you want to have and surgeons should tell you that. Ever see Dr. 90210? Some of those surgeons make me angry. They had this 18 year old on there that was overweight. She wanted liposuction and a breast augmentation because she "couldn't lose weight". The doctor told her the liposuction wouldn't make a huge difference, but he'd do the operation anyways. People sometimes don't realize that even though it's elective surgery, it is still surgery and there are risks involved."
spectrachic311 said: "I personally wouldn't do it. There are too many risks involved for the sake of pure vanity most of the time. The only time I'd consider it necessary is for malformations/deformations in your face/body, breast reductions, or removing excess skin after losing a lot of weight. I have a little loose skin around my tummy from losing weight, but it's definitely nothing serious. Not like some of the people that get surgery, I guess. I sometimes think I'd like a breast augmentation, but I always remember that if I did that, I wouldn't be "me" anymore. I guess I just feel like we should be happy with what God gave us and try to make it the best it can be naturally."
ExManiac said: "I absolutely hate my upper arms. They are big, they are flabby, and since I've lost weight, I still can't bear to wear a sleeveless shirt. They are the same arms my mother has, my grandmother has, and, I'm willing to bet, my great-grandmother had.
I looked online for people who had had upper arm plastic surgery, just to check it out. Their new arms looked lovely, though some didn't seem to change too much between the before and after pics, but the inside of their arms were left with a long scar from elbow to armpit.
No thanks. I still wouldn't be willing to wear a sleeveless shirt.
On the other hand, medical technology is advancing so rapidly. There are some procedures that leave few scars and make a dramatic difference. I think plastic surgery really can improve some people's lives. It's all about weighing the risks."

John[/QUOTE]
That's what my doc tried calling my stretch marks..honor badges...I just don't feel too honored to have them...."
shy_doll said: "Well I don't agree with most plastic surgery...like the women who have to go get the biggest boobs ever or completely change their faces from what they were born with. That is just ridiculous to me. I, however, do understand some peoples reasons for surgery...like for instance what kemb mentioned. I have even talked about getting some done (if I could ever finance it) IF when I reach goal and have done to my body what I can naturally do through exercise and diet. The reason is my ruined stomach area from 3 pregnancies. I am unfortunately scarred with stretchmarks from way low clear up to my breasts. And they aren't small little marks...they are huge and there are more of them than there is regular skin showing through. My husband swears he doesn't notice them but I know better....That would be the only thing I would ever think about getting done. I saw a woman on television one day with the same disfiguring stretchmarks that I have. She underwent plastic surgery and it was amaaaaazing. She even wore a bikini afterwards and you couldn't tell they were ever there and you didn't see any surgical scars because they cut you so low. I wouldn't be able to afford it till way down the road, but it would be the one surgery I would think very much about getting done. But again, it's just a thought for now....I might reach goal and say the heck with the marks, I like myself just the way I am. Just my thoughts."
kemb2722 said: "I mostly believe its a personal decision. I can't imagine myself every getting anything done.
I don't really have any issues with the minor things, botox, lip injections, etc, or even people who get reasonable procedures to correct something they are really unhappy about. I once had a friend who was so flat chested she literally looked like a boy...nothing there. With a padded bra on, I never realized how flat she was. I always said I didnt think breast impants would be good, but when she showed me how trully flat she was, I suppported her. She was reasonable however, only going to a medium sized B cup.
People who make over their entire bodies and faces I think have issues much deeper. Thats just my opinion!"
klynnfosh said: "Well having had a few surgeries that had to be, I do not want to have any without a good medical reasons. If it was a quick fix without having to be cut on and possible complications, and no pain then I guess I might consider it, if I had the money to afford it. I guess I am just stuck with what I have!"
Creaton Diva said: "Hello:
I'm getting Breast Reduction Surgery probably in April I need to find a Plastic Surgeon in my Area so I've been looking online I've fond some but still need to keep searching. I'm aware of the risks of Breast Reduction but I need to do this my back hurts me and i have indentations from my Bra Strap and I need to do this my breast size is 36DD and I don't like being that big and it gives me trouble so I think I'm a good candidate for a Breast Reduction. But its up to you if you want Plastic Surgery because you see alot of people getting it every day they aren't satisfied with their appearance so they pay obscene amounts of money to get work done that they don't need done but I need to get this Surgery besides I've been under the knife twice before I had 2 Major Reconstructive Foot Surgeries years ago so I know about the Risks."
missred said: "I have had a breast reduction, which was a dream come true (and insurance paid for it!) I was a size E on a 5'6"/160 pound frame. I looked heavy and felt miserable all of the time. Constant back pain, ect. I'm now a large C or a D. Much better! I can exericise, fit into shirts made for my size (not size 2X tops with size 10 jeans or whatever).
In the next few years I would like to have a breast lift. After having Preston, I still have a great size, but I need a little lift (which the doctor said is common 5-10 years after having the surgery). If I could afford it, I would definately have a tummy tuck (after losing the rest of my weight). I have a had a pooch since I was 12, and I'm concerned that even after losing weight I'll have a bag of lose skin hanging. Hopefully not, but I would seriously consider the surgery.
There isn't anything else I would do. I do want to look and feel my best (for me). I don't think anything I have done or consider doing is drastic. As for having some kind of affliction or whatever, I'm not happy with the way I look. I'm content, I guess, but not truly happy. I'm working on it each day I eat better and work out, ect. (My arms are looking good!) :) Most people here are beyond content with the way that they look, I imagine. WHich is one reason why everyone is working out, ect. Of course, it is for health as well. My tummy tuck wouldn't be for health but looks only, of course. We'll see..."

LOL! This is exactly why I can't jump around during aerobics and start running. I really does hurt to have those things bouncing around and I still haven't found a sports bra that does what it's supposed to. Even two at a time don't help. It would be nice to be able to run though. I feel off balance a lot lol."
wildlove said: "Spectra - Thanks for the information! I'll take a look and see if it works.:)"
wildlove said: "I'm worried about lose skin, stretch marks, and sagging breasts as well. I would consider surgery for these things. I hate doctors and hospitals, so this would be a big sacrifice for me, and the chances of me getting other stuff done would be slim to none lol.
I've been hearing about doctorssayyes.org recently and will probably try to go through them when I finally get to the point of needing surgery. I know that I couldn't pay for it up front, but if the financing deal was good enough I would readily do it. I'm nowhere near the surgery point yet, but at least it's something to consider.
As far as the ethics of it goes, I know what I did to my body and am willing to make the sacrifices to fix it. The thought of going through such a long time of dieting only to be left with a sagging body is not very pleasant, nor motivating. I know that I'll feel better inside, but I don't think that will carry me too far with the amount of sagging and skin I will most likely be left with. At any rate, I guess my overall opinion is: To each his or her own. :)"
angel_rising said: "There are two surgeries that I have ever considered doing. I have thought about getting a breast reduction. A size F is deffinitly a lot to carry and very hard to shop for. I would be happy with a C or D. I have also put some thought into getting some repair work done on my face. A dog bit me in the face a while back and left some pretty bad scars. I am not talking about a little discoleration, I am talking about scars that are raised and very discolered. Other than those two I can not piture myself ever going under the knife. I like what I got, I just want to be in shape.

Diamond said: "I would consider getting laser hair removal, but I think that's about as far as I'd go.
Lasers sound nicer than knives!"
Diamond said: "To me, plastic surgery is a personal choice.
I never like to hear about the stories that go bad. I was watching a show on TV a while back about a lady that had like 30 different procedures done. She looked horrible! She had facelifts, tummy tucks, liposuction all of it.
She looked a lot older than what she really was and I don't think it helped her.
The woman that wanted to look like Barbie was another sad story."
freestyler said: "Oh that's great news well when I get down to a reasonable weight it will be weight training for me!"
freestyler said: "I found it really interesting reading peoples thoughts on this.
John you have lost one hundred pounds, wow you are something for me to aspire to.
I definately hear wildlove's thoughts on the loose skin. I'm worried about that myself (although it's a long way off yet.) I didn't really give it much thought until I watched a documentary on Discovery which had this teenager that had, had Gastric surgery - it was really nasty the mounds of sagging tummy flesh he had after it - I kind of have this silent thought in the back of my mind that says, I hope that doesn't happen to me, and I have so much to lose so that does worry me a bit. Then again I am on a conventional diet so because it's not as sudden maybe it won't be as bad?
But when I was thinking of it the other day - I thought some of these muscle builders you see have muscles popping out all over the shot, so with my totally (probabally totally naive) thinking, I thought If i lost alot of weight and had this excess skin - couldn't i work out and develop really strong stomach muscles that would fill the skin out? I don't know how technically sound my idea is? Does anyone think it would work?
If the end result of my weight loss was a lot of loose skin - I wouldn't think twice about going for surgery to get it taken away, if at the time I could afford it!"
John_KY said: "This is something I've given a lot of thought to as well. I'm like a lot of folks I imagine must have some loose skin and stretchmarks after losing 100+ lbs. I'm sure being a man might make it a little easier for me to cope with (guys aren't supposed to care about their looks, right?). I used to catch sight of my abdomen in the mirror and think "geez! I've got the torso of an old man now!" So for a while I thought hard about the surgical options. In then end I decided I'll probably end up with enough health problems without actually volunteering to go under any knives, so why push it. Now I go swimming proudly. I say wear it like a badge of honor. Just some proof you've led an interesting life.

Charity said: "I'm cursed with the hereditary arms too. I don't have them just yet, but all the older females in my family do! I wonder if there is a way to prevent that naturally, or should I just save my money for future surgery?"
Charity said: "So true! My sergeon is going to cost me $7000 or so in total. I'm having a boob lift, no size increase if possible. No implants!! I'm spending good cash, and this sergeon is apparentely really really good(he did my ex-bf's sister). I'm prepared for ultimate pain, but I'm doing it for me and it's worth it! I have to keep my weight steady for awhile though, or they won't operate. I can't go under 115lbs for that one."
Charity said: "Eeeewwww. I made a promise to myself to never ever get lipo (I gotta do it the old fashioned way!), or do ANYTHING to my face!
even botox. The needles freak me out."
