Heather said: "Welcome to Featherish, Debshrink.
How much weight would you like to use?"
Heather said: "They say that losing weight can help control asthma, too.
I'd rather treat myself without prescriptions, even though it would be a tougher road to go."

Researchers at the Mayo clinic found a new form of sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea can have symptoms like snoring, and not feeling like you've slept well in the morning."

A lot of severely overweight people actually have sleep apnea and don't even really know it until they get a CPAP machine and actually sleep through the night and get plenty of sleep. My friend's dad has apnea really bad and his doctor said losing weight actually can help it go away. It has something to do with less weight being put on your respiratory system so you don't get an obstructed airway. I think if I had sleep apnea, that'd be a pretty good motivation to lose weight. I'd hate wearing that machine at night...it's kind of freaky looking and definitely looks like it'd be uncomfortable."

There are many people who have this and weight is not a huge factor in this. However, the weight can come from having sleep apnea. When the body is not getting it's proper rest this decreases metabolism thus making it harder to lose weight, all the dieting and exercise in the world will not be successful (this could be the reason for many who fail on their weight loss goals). I know.. I've been suffereing from sleep apnea and for the past six years I've been gaining weight without changing my eating habits whatsoever. I was stumped as to why this was happening to me. I tried the exercise, joined a fitness center and after 3 weeks of going 5 days a week I had only lost 1.5 lbs. Talk about discouraged.... then my father took ill and I spent day and night with him in the hospital. Brought him home on oxygen, he passed away 5 days later.... he was 80 years young and had a full life, his passing was peaceful... thank goodness.
Anyway, back on track.... I just found out I have sleep apnea caused by enlarged tonsils and uvula, this was not created by the weight gain but by childhood bout of tonsilitis and the refusal of the doctors back then to remove my tonsils, the uvula also comes partly from age. My husband just couldn't sleep in the same room as me, I was so loud. I went for a sleep study and found this out. The doctor is recommending surgery for me.... I'm still debating,, surgery is so intrusive.
The article above is describing mixed sleep apnea, OSA (obstructive) CSA (central). OSA is what I have and CSA is a signal in the brain which malfunctions and doesn't tell the body to breathe, people can stop breathing while even awake with this one.
Back to the topic of losing weight, I need to eat better nutrional meals, my problem is finding those that are easy and inexpensive to create. With this being said I'll also introduce myself in the correct forum topic and expand further in this category.
nice to be here
