DLT said: "As long as I can remember. Actually, the time that I was most successful, I didn't even try to lose weight. I had quit work and become a housewife. I guess not being around snack machines, going out to lunches, happy hours and people bringing in goodies really did me in. I kept it off for over five years. It was the thinnest I had ever been and the longest I have ever kept it off. I vowed that I would not let it happen again - but I turned around one day and there it all was and it brought more with it."

I have stopped gorging on the chips and only grab a handful while others finish the bag. I eat brown bread now instead of white. I have eaten kraft dinner 2 times in 6 months. I also joined a gym march.28 2004. I went 3 days inconsistantly, now I go 5 days a week plus walk my dog plus bike. I have cut down all fats and sugars because they are my enemy. I can't stop at one. During a movie now, its sunflower seeds instead of a bag of doritos or lays chips. I have cut down my caffeine to maybe a cup every 3 days. I have stopped my depression medication and now I make sure I work out my stress, I also stopped my thyroid medication which I was only boarderline of anyway. I feel greater than I have ever felt since I had my 3 boys. I have been overweight all of my life. I am not sure about gynetics but I have always been moderately active as well. I was 180 when I was 18. I am now 29 and big. I smoked for a few years and I quit november 14th 2004. I also quit smoking other stuff that made me get the munchies at the same time.It is a definate emotional struggle and I don't wish it on anyone. When I get to my goal weight, which seems so long down the road....I am going to publish my weight journal and I was also told I will be in a magazine. You need a strong support network and a diet change. If you join a gym, it helps a lot with your goals. It has mine. I hope one day to post that I am my goal weight. I hope you all well in your weight loss journey."

I thought I was over weight because all my friends weighed 110 to 115 but, I never thought to take in to consideration that they were all only 5'1" to 5'3" tall. Now, I dieted myself up to 164. I have to get it right this time."

Darren said: "Losing weight is like one of those things that has to happen as you get older.
You can get away with abusing your body when you're young, but it's much tougher as you age.
In 2001 I quit smoking and drinking. Then in 2003 I started exercising. I haven't really put in the effort to eat right and lose the weight until this year though. This time failure is not an option."

cvalh said: "I was relatively thin in highschool. I've always had to work at my weight, but in highschool I was a three-sport athlete and didn't eat a whole lot. Senior year I got put on some medication that made me gain around 30 lbs, but I was semi-oblivious, because I didn't go up a size, the clothes just got a little tighter. When I hit college, I kept gaining. When I hit 200, it was a wake-up call, but I didn't really start trying to lose weight untill this year, at 220 lbs."
UniqueMystique said: "This is my second attempt at 'really' trying. First attempt was 4 years ago and I was quite successful. Life, stress, health issues, etc happened and I lost control. Things are much better now and I've decided to put myself above everything else. I started back on my exercise routine in September and I actually started pushing myself hard in January of this year. It's not coming back this time....I'm stronger and dedicated."

I tried a couple of weird diets and then went to college in hopes that I would "figure out" how to lose weight. I gained 30 lbs freshman year by eating cheeseburgers for lunch every day. NOT so good. I studied biochemistry and figured out how to eat properly. And a bunch of my friends got me into joining the running club on campus. So I started to lose weight about halfway through my freshman year. I finished losing all my weight by the end of my sophomore year. And I've maintained ever since then (~3 years). :D"
Razor said: "How long have you beed trying to lose weight?
Me? I have lost my weight that I need to lose, but now I am striving to compete so I am trying to shed bodyfat, but I will say 2.5 years it took me to get here."

nattie said: "I would say I have been trying on and off for almost 5 years. When I was 20 my thyroid slowed down, which we all know your thyroid effects your metabolism, and I had no idea . I loved where I was then I was wearing a 10/12 and looked good. I just knew all of a sudden I was gaining weight and nothing in my life had changed. When I got my first stretch mark I cried and started trying to lose weight. Of course all the weight came right back. Then 2 years ago and 70lbs later I had my thyroid checked when I felt like I was always chocked. That is when I found out my thyroid had basicly shut down and I had developed a goider. I now have a med that works great and is at the amount I need. I am at a point where I can/need to make a life change and not gain the weight back. Let me tell you gaining weight and having your hormones all messed up is not good for your self esteem, but I feel like I am back to being me now.
Anyways now that I have babbled long enough trying 5 yrs and serious for almost 2 months."

whateverhobb said: "I'm 27 and in 2001 had lost 65lbs, and I was really fit. I went from 245 to 180. I was working out, lifting weights every week day for 2 hours. Then I met my husband fell in love instantly and got pregnant within a year. I tried to eat right, but everyone kept on telling me, "eat, eat, eat....I knew that my wieght loss was hanging on a thread and I am smart enough to know that you technically do not have to eat for two, but I let myself go with the flow....Then after I had my daughter I was back up in the 200's about 230 I think, then for the next year I tried going to the gym, but I was working about 60plus hours at my job, and I couldn't get myself motivated again. Then SUPRISE!! I was pregnant again, I didn't want to get pregnant so soon after my first, but it happened so it was okay. Well during my second pregnancy I was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes, so I had to be good. No sugar, no soda, no fatty foods, nothing that I wanted. LOL. I had to give myself insulin shots four times a day, and it sucked. So after I had ISabella my wonderful little red head I went a little crazy and started eating everything in sight. OMG, It was like I couldn't stop myself. I had only gained 12 pounds my entire pregnancy. I was at like 250, and I have gained 20 more pounds since she has been born. She is only 10months and I now weight the most I have ever weighed in my life 270lbs. I feel totally out of control!!! So everyday I tell myself you are going to do it! But I feel frustrated because it seems like a hopeless goal.
So this is the longest answer to a question ever, but for about hmmmmm let me see, MY WHOLE LIFE, I have been trying to get my wieght right.
Thanx for letting me vent I feel better now."
