im getting frustrated

MissyW said: "First off, don't depend on the scale to be an accurate measure of your progress. Scales are very deceiving because muscle weighs more than fat so the gains you are seeing could very well be muscle gain. Also..your body weight can fluctuate 5 pounds during the day, so the best time to weigh yourself is first thing in the morning AFTER you have gone to the bathroom..it's your most accurate weight. Invest in a measuring tape to see your inches lost rather than the number on the scale, it's more accurate. Measure your neck, shoulder width, chest, biceps flexed, forearm, waist, hips, thighs and calves."

They will tell you where to measure to get your true "measurements". But I think as long as you consistently measure the same part of you every time, you shouldn't have too much of an issue. A really cool tip: Measure LOTS of spots on your body. That way you can add up the inches you lose faster...you may lose an inch on your waist, 2 inches on your hips, 1/2 inch around your ankles, an inch around each thigh, etc. Then you can add it up and find out just how many inches you lost!"

badbrat2005 said: "no, i dont do measurements. could you use just a regular tape measure to do them or do you need that special measuring tape used for making clothes."

badbrat2005 said: "guess what? i found a flexible tape that i didnt even know i had. now can anyone tell me if they know of a site that shows precisely where to take the measurements so i know i am getting them correctly?"

badbrat2005 said: "ok, so that flexible tape i found wasnt big enough. its only like 25 inches long i need double that"

badbrat2005 said: "so i finally got the kind of tape i need. it is long enough and flexible. only cost 3 dollars."

badbrat2005 said: "I go on a site called extrapounds.com. It has an area called to body log and it has a picture showing the areas where to do it, so i am using that. It measures 8 different areas."

Cadence said: "The phenomenon is very real...unfortunately. However, the good news is...the scale does not always reflect your efforts. Have you taken your measurements? Because I've been stuck at 144 for a month now, but I know I building alot more muscle...which weighs alot more than fat. So the fat that I'm burning off doesn't show up on the scale- but it does in my measurements."

The problem is you get depressed when the numbers are up and happy when they are down. You need to see the overall picture, weigh yourself once a week and then you might be able to see the downward trend on the scale. Some weeks it is not going to move but then the next it will move and you will think boy I bet this is wrong and it won't be. I think we are all obsessed with the scale and we need to start focus more on us than the number on the scale."
