Can't afford it, just a kid

Yum said: "Is there anyway that someone could put down like 2 days worth of meals for me from South Beach or Atkins? I can't buy the book but thanks!"

Yum said: "Wow thanx! I can't rent it because my mom thinks I am anorexic..."

Yum said: "I am less than 120 now, about 115-118 if my scale is right. P.S. I am 5'7. I have been eating LESS calories. I haven't been starving myself! I eat when I am hungry. But I do measure my sugar intake and I look at labels."

Yum said: "My mom doesn't really think that I am. A little exaggeration. She just thinks I am overly concerned about my body. I exercise about 4 times (or an hour) a day."

Yum said: "It would make me much happier, believe me."

pixiechic said: "i remember when i was about 16 a teacher that i didn't get along with asked me if 'everything was okay' because i lost some weight. i wasn't super skinny and my bmi wasn't 18. i weighed in the 140's and i'm short. i did it by walking 3 miles a day around my country block and lifting weights after school. i remember how angry it made me feel because i was doing something to change my weight, and the first thing this teacher said was something negative. i figured it was none of her business. even though i might not have like here, i guess she may of been expressing concern because i was her student. (you have more perspective 15 years later) eating disorders are nothing to mess with. they can cause irreversible damage to your body. it is the same with drug abuse. most people won't admit they have a problem, so i have to agree with unique on this one."

shrkntz said: "Each of us view ourselves in a certain way. My goal weight is from the bmi chart. All I want to be is healthy and look good, not look underweight. The skinnier you make yourself, the more unhealthy it can become if you are off the bmi chart. It is best to go by health and not by looks. It is not safe to go on extreme diets just to lost 5 lbs. I have done my weight loss slowly for a year, I hope that those who are on some sort of weight loss plan that they do is safely and with a doctor and nurtitionalists recommendations."

cvalh said: "Yum, I can't necessarilly agree with Unique that you DO have an eating disorder, as I don't know you... But having read some of your posts, you seem very concerned with losing an insignificant amount of fat. Keep in mind that the human body requires some fat to live, and in your case, it just might be stored in your tummy (sorry, but you can't help that). If your mother is truly worried about this, you might want to take a close look at why. How much do you exercize? What are your eating habits? Why, at 120 lbs (and if I remember right, you're fairly tall), do you feel like you so need to lose weight? Make sure that you're not doing this unhealthily. And don't look at it in terms of you wanting to lose fat, look at it in terms of what a body needs to survive!"

cvalh said: "Unique, it was just a matter of phrasing then. You said when other people think it, it's usually true... While this is often the case, I've known many many people who are naturally thin and can't stand how everyone assumes they have an eating disorder. I'm not disagreeing with the rest of what you said though - don't worry about it!"

cvalh said: "Interesting, Unique... I don't know how our bone structures compare, but I'm only 5'5 and I have difficulty imagining being 135 lbs. I feel like that would be a good weight for me, and verging on the low end (seeing as I was in great shape when I weighed 150). I'd just say do what feels best, and if you're at all worried, get a second opinion :)"

UniqueMystique said: "When people think others have an eating disorder....they most likely do. Your mother should have you checked over by a physician to determine if there's a problem. AND....if you don't THINK that you are anorexic...then you shouldn't have a problem going to the appointment and taking the doctor's advice. Don't wait....please be seen about!"

UniqueMystique said: "
Yum, I can't necessarilly agree with Unique that you DO have an eating disorder, as I don't know you...
Cass....I didn't say or agree that Yum had an eating disorder. It's just that in most cases of anorexia....other's notice and are often right about the person having the disorder. The person with the disorder will deny that there is a problem. If Yum is not anorexic or bulemic and believes that they are perfectly fine healthwise...then there should be no fear in seeing a doctor. Most people with an eating disorder will not willingly go to a doctor though for fear that the doctor will force them to eat. Teenagers with eating disorders will often rebel against seeing a doctor because a doctor can have the parents hospitalize them against their will and force the nutrition into their bodies. They'd rather go on acting as if nothing is wrong....while hiding themselves under bulky clothing. The human body will start deteriorating and it will feed off of itself until organs and such just quit functioning. Eating disorders are serious business and can cause irreversible damage and even death. With Yum being this young and thin......they should see a doctor and nutritionist for healthful guidance."

UniqueMystique said: "I'm 5'8" and my doc thinks that I should weigh about 135. I really think that's too low for me. I think I'll look totally sick. I'm sure that under 120 is too low for someone 5'7"."

UniqueMystique said: "I'm probably about a medium frame....may even be closer to a small frame. I can wrap my thumb and forefinger around my wrist and they overlap about an inch. I'm sort of tall for a womam...but I have extremely long legs. I have a 36" inseam. I have quite a butt...always have had...even at 117 pounds in high school. People would ask if I had any 'ethnic' heritage because of it. It's not broad....just ample. I carry the majority of my weight in my midsection. I don't look as heavy as I am....when I was at a size 22 people would guess me to be about a size 14. So I can just imagine people's reactions at 135. I looked and felt good at 158 four years ago....I'm shooting for 145 this time. I think it's a good compromise."

spectrachic311 said: "Yum, if you are 5'7" and 115-118 lbs, you don't need to lose any weight really. Even if you do, you might still be dissatisfied. At one point, I got myself down to 106 lbs (I'm 5'4") but I STILL didn't like my body. It looked kinda gross. I lost ALL my boobs, my arms looked really manly, and my butt no longer filled out my jeans. I actually started to freak because even the smallest sized jeans were loose and unflattering. I realized I needed to chill out a bit with the weight monitoring stuff. See, I had weighed around 190 and through diet and exercize I lost weight. I knew how to lose weight, but I realized that if I didn't switch to a maintenance mode, that I'd be in trouble fast. Besides, I started to feel like crap most of the time. I was always cold and my skin and hair got all gross looking. So I went to the doctor and got a physical to make sure I was healthy, added a few more healthy calories into my diet, stopped obsessing so much about the Calories in/Calories out ratios, and started to vary my workouts a bit so my body was getting more rest. Now I'm back up to a healthy 116 lbs and my body is pretty much going to stay there. In a way, I think all of us here may have some sort of disordered eating, otherwise we wouldn't have to worry about our weight. And once we do get the weight part under control, we still have to think about food probably more than most people. Yum, here's my advice: If you seriously think the tummy thing is a major problem, see your doctor. It's more likely than not just the way you're built. And that makes you unique :)"

Holly said: "Yum, I'm no health expert, but I just checked your BMI and it's about 18. According to the charts that means you're underweight. I know that I, too, would like a celebrity flat tummy, but they must go to extreme measures to do so. When their tummy is 100% flat, they get millions of dollars from movie roles, concert tickets, etc. What will you get? Will you really be any happier? It is your decision. I think you're old enough to think it out, but I'm sure your mom and doctor would love to help in any way they can."

Qian said: "I agree, go to where you think you would feel comfortable and feel best. I am 5'8", with a large frame. According to all the charts and doctors the max I would want to weigh is about 175. I can't imagine that. I'm shooting for 200. Mainly because I have pretty muscular legs and chest. At one point I was down to 225 and my thighs still measured 22" and my chest measured 54" The only reason I'd want to drop another 25lbs from what I used to weigh is to get to a size 38 pant. Every person is different if you feel comfortable in your own skin that is the weight you should be. :)"
