shrkntz said: "I keep a journal of what I have done in a day. I also go to the gym when I am feeling real stressed. I work it out."
pixiechic said: "although it isn't something you could do every day, a full body massage always makes me feel like i'm walking on the top of the world.
a nice relaxing bath is another good suggestion."
lambchop said: "When I'm stressed out, or when I want to eat a lot of ice cream (like last night), I read. My husband and I have a bet to see who can read the most books in a year (we did it last year, too) and it keeps me motivated to pick up a book. When I'm reading, I'm not doing things like shoveling ice cream with hot fudge into my mouth. And since I'm a stress-eater, it helps a lot."
Yum said: "Well, I figure skate, or buy myself something new for my skates :D such as tonight, I bought $300 dollar skates, but that is beside the point because I had been planning to get them for weeks and needed them badly...P.S. I am not a fat skater!"
featherish said: "I hope the tomato soup suggestion didn't turn out to be brutal!"
Henrietta said: "Glad to hear you're recovering. Nothing worse than feeling sick!"
Heather said: "I have been trying to add some meditation into my daily routine.
Just some quiet time that I can work through thoughts etc.
It also keeps me from hitting up the cupboard or frig.
Another thing I have done (which may or may not suit you) is turned off my television. It has been off since last Monday. Not hearing "noise" from the idiot box has made my low carb diet easier to follow by not hearing commercials telling me to eat all the time."
Heather said: "Cabin Fever has me feeling the same way.
It has been no warmer than 35 degrees and has snowed almost every friggin day in March.
I'd rather be in the Caribbean."
Heather said: "That's a good way to deal. By reading.
I'm the complete opposite, when I'm feeling stressed out the last thing I feel like doing is eating. I guess that deep down, it won't make me any happier when I step on the scale. So I skip it."
Cupcake said: "Hehehe. I eat. :o I know, I'm sooo bad."
Cupcake said: "I know what you mean. All eating when your stressed does for you is give you that crappy guilty feeling later."
Darren said: "Yeah, great point about Yoga. I'm a newbie in it, but it really is relaxing."
Darren said: "I've just started on it from a few books and tapes. The subject of Yoga is vast. The basic system has been used by all sorts of interesting people (many mystics, etc) over the centuries.
Basically, you learn some very good stretches, breathing exercises, and the ability to calm your mind. Yoga is said to be very beneficial in a number of ways towards your overall mental and physical health. I'm starting to unwind myself from being a "type a" personality with more mediation."
UniqueMystique said: "What do you do when stress seems to take over your life? What helps ease it for you? My life is just so stressful lately. I'm curious as to how others combat it."
UniqueMystique said: "I do too...and eating doesn't help though. Tastes good going down....but it's the after that gets ya! I'm looking for other alternatives.....I know that I can always work out more....but I've a feeling I'd be at the gym 24 - 7 these days. :p"
UniqueMystique said: "I gave up TV about a year ago. Usually just mindless drivel anyhow. I watch snippets of stuff that others are watching but get bored and find something else to do usually.
I don't drink, smoke, etc...have none of those distasteful vices....I did have food...but I've overcome that one.
I'm not sure why...but people are just irritating the freaking crap out of me lately.
Maybe I need to start drinking chamomile tea or something....."
UniqueMystique said: "*Smiles*
Going to the gym helps me a lot....but I go daily for about an hour and a half. The way that the stress has been piling up on me lately....I think I'd need to be there 24 hours a day. Then nothing could bother me. ;)"
UniqueMystique said: "BigBoy....can you tell me a bit more about Yoga?"
UniqueMystique said: "A lot better....still a bit queasy but it's not so bad. Comes and goes. I think I'll live. ;)"
UniqueMystique said: "It didn't hurt me.....I'd already lost so much fluid and nutrients that I'm sure anything would have helped. I'd lost enough flluids to drastically dry my lips out. One day of sickness can really harm a person. I'm feeling pretty darned good right now though. :)"
UniqueMystique said: "Wow! This is an old thread!!!!! Hehehe! I took care of this stress this past fall. I let go of some "friends" who were bringing me down all the time with their problems. They would ask for my advice...and then eventually ignore it. I finally told them that I had my on problems to deal with and that it was time that they learned how to handle their own problems. That they were on their own! So far...they are managing just fine without me....and I'm free to deal with my own issues. ;)"
theirmom said: "I keep a notebook, writting things down seems to help me..also I relax in the tub..with a good book , hope it helps"
lotusleaf said: "I brought a yoga DVD and have been doing that, and this helps to de-stress me. Also reading a good book helps me to stop thinking of whatever it is that stressing me out!"
Qian said: "I did yoga a while back, and I definitly felt more focused and relxed. I'm thinking I might get back into it. By the way, how are you feeling today Unique?"
OldOneinMA said: "A little simple I suppose, but I have a moto:
Expect nothing, your'e never disapointed.
:)
It works for me though. It's not that I don't have dreams or desires, but rather than worry about them, I work toward them and forget the rest."
