Jump Rope Anyone???Jump Rope Anyone???
Pallavi said: "You are right 10 minutes continuous rope jumping is really helpful and equivalent to running. I also do rope jumping for 10 minutes in the morning and evening. After doing rope jumping i feel so light."
featherish said: "
I heard last night that 10 minutes of continuous rope jumping is the equivilent to 30 minutes of continuous running in caloric burn.
Thats a good way to shorten up a workout. Just make it more intense.
Have you tried doing it yet?"
Heather said: "I think that you are right about that.
Jumping rope is really good exercise, I bought a jump rope, but I think it might be too long (if that makes sense?) it is 9 foot.
The weather here has not been good enough to do much of anything springy outdoors, so I haven't used it yet. When the snow melts I am going to see how many or how long I can go."
Heather said: "Thanks for the tip on the calf raises.
I was always impressed by people that could do double dutch.
I would proabaly get my legs all tangled and then land on my bottom if I did it.. LOL!
Do you jump rope anymore, Nattie?
I have yet to do mine, because the weather outside hasn't gotten much better and I don't want to do it in the house!"
Heather said: "Thanks!
That helps make our calves look hot when we're wearing stilletto heels!
..if you can walk in them! LOL. :D"
Heather said: "Take things one step at a time. Jumping rope is hard aerobic exercise for just about anyone."
cvalh said: "Unique... I have a knee injury as well, but yours certainly could be worse... Anyway, I haven't tried this, but as far as jumping rope is concerned, could you do it in a running motion? Would that lessen the impact for you? I know that my knee handles running relatively well, far better than it does jumping."

UniqueMystique said: "Nope.....too much impact on my knee (old softball injury). Just thought I'd post it for those who might be interested. ;)"
UniqueMystique said: "You can work you calves using a thick phone book too. Place the phone book on the floor.....place the balls of your feet on the phone book so that your heels hang off the side. Lift yourself up to your tippy toes...then lower your heels to the ground. It works! I do this at the gym on the leg press machine too....I use one of the thick metal platforms that holds the machine steady."
UniqueMystique said: "It might help, Cass.....it's not something that would keep my interest long though. I might be prompted to do it if I were outside and my kids were doing it...but I wouldn't do it for long. Like they say.....do what you love and you'll stick with it."
UniqueMystique said: "Here's that thread. :)"

spectrachic311 said: "Eh, it's pretty good. You have to enter your weight into it before you can use it. I don't really use the calorie feature as much as the "jumps counted" feature. I wear my HR monitor and I just make sure I'm jumping fast enough to keep my heart rate up."
spectrachic311 said: "I actually just splurged and bought myself a new toy: a jump rope that counts jumps and calories burned. It's so cool! You enter your weight and then just jump rope and it'll count jumps for you. It reminds me of a toy I had back in the day (some of you may remember these): a Skip-It. It was a ball-like thing that had a loop on it that you put around one foot and jumped over it as you rotated it around. It had a counter on it and we used to have contests as to who could get the highest numbers.
Seriously, why don't they advertise more toys like these? I also had a jump-rope toy that was like a stick with a jump rope that attached to either end. You could unscrew the stick to make "handles" or fasten it together to create a different feel to it. It was pretty cool. I was SUCH a jump-rope freak as a kid and I'm pretty good at it, so when I do it now, I don't feel like I'm working out...I feel like I'm back in grade school!"
spectrachic311 said: "You'll remember how, Angel. It's like riding a bike. I didn't think I'd be any good after taking such a long break from it from when I was a kid, but I picked up the rope and I started right where I left off. Let us know how you like it!"
spectrachic311 said: "Jumping rope at a vigorous pace burns about 100 calories in 10 minutes...it's about the same as running, but it sure does help alleviate boredom if you don't like to run!"
nattie said: "I know alot of people that jump rope. I used to do alot when I played sports. We had to do different stations and jump rope was one. It is good for building up your legs. Another good leg workout for your legs is calf raises and you dont have to have weights."
nattie said: "SnaPea, I haven't jumped roap in a while but I just got a new rope that came with 2 - 1/2lb weights that I am going to start using. I am going to try to go about 30 min a day.
If the phone book is thick enough yeah it will work. If you will turn your feet while you are doing them, like do a rep of 10 with your toes pointing in then 10 with them out and 10 with them pointed straight forward it will work the different muscels in your calves and help elongate your calves. A good streatch is to put your toes on a wall and lean forward. It streatches the calves really well."
Fatexterminator said: "sorry to burst ur bubble but do you think those calories are accurate? dont wanna go off topic but i read somewhere that cardio machines never give accurate calories burned...but i know what your feeling, im going to go look around tomorow and if i see one of those im snatching it ! lol... it just "helps" but i still would like to know accurate....but who knows maybe they are..anyways you guys have got me jumping about jump rope! lol i gotta try this"
angel_rising said: "I love to jump rope. I can even do double jumps. Thats where you jump once, but you have the rope going soo fast that it goes around twice. I think I will invest in a good jumprope soon.
Angel"
angel_rising said: "I just got a jump rope. I cant wait to use it and see if I am still good at it our if it is going to kick my butt. Any bets?
Angel"
angel_rising said: "The "actual" jumping rope was easy. It is the stamina that I have a problem with. I could not even make it 2 min, much less the 10 I want to do.
Angel"
lakelady said: "Work up to it angel, 2, 2 and a half, 3........You'll get there before you know it!"
lakelady said: "
Really? I need to look into that. I hate running.
Amber, it's nice to have you here, but could you please use larger text. In case you haven't noticed, I'm old!"
blinky said: "I do 100 reps per minute for an hour. Is that good enough? I find it more convenient than getting dressed to run outside sometimes."
