Eating Right And Losing Weight

Heather said: "Hello and welcome to Featherish.. I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. That has to be very difficult. I'm a big fan of eating healthy and being active as a way to lose weight long term. I'd say salads are a good thing, (without deep fried chicken) as are fresh fruits and veggies, whole grain foods, and dairy like yogurt or cottage cheese. Good luck!"

Mac and Cheese and fast food are both not-so-filling and high in calories. For a lot fewer calories, you can have something like grilled chicken and a salad or steamed veggies or a plain baked potato and feel a lot more satisfied (plus, veggies have more vitamins and fiber than french fries!) Also, try to walk a little more. Maybe you could get a pedometer that counts your steps and try to take 10,000 steps a day. That's usually a good target. And last thing...don't worry too much about what other people think. If YOU think you look good in a swimsuit, then you do. No matter what you weigh :)"

If you have to eat out and eat fast food as I do each week, just make better choices. All most all places have grilled chicken sandwiches, just tell them to leave mayo off. A salad is a good choice but watch the full fat salad dressings, as they defeat the purpose of eating healthier. Fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein are good choices. As to dairy go low fat or no fat when available as in milk, yogurt, puddings and cheese. There is loads of fats in most dairy products. If you can eliminate added fats, and cut out most sweets and sugared drinks those changes alone will help you shed pounds. Best of luck to you!"

missred said: "It doesn't seem like you eat enough, but you definately need to add something for breakfast. I often see people who cut their calories too much! So make sure you are eating enough. It's good that you are eating fruit. Make sure you are getting enough veggies and grains too. I know it is hard to get in enough veggies! I have that problem too! Water also helps...make sure you drink lots! Adding some more exercise will probably get that scale moving too. Add some more walking, if that is what you like. Buy some weights (maybe 3 lbs) and do some strength training while you watch tv, add some stretches or whatever you can to keep you from just sitting on the your duff."

missred said: "Here are some suggestions: Breakfast: high fiber cereal, fat free milk and a piece of fruit OR one whole wheat waffle with light margarine, a turkey sausage patty and a fat free yogurt Snack: some fruit or a fat free yogurt Lunch: If you like sandwiches, maybe a turkey on whole wheat bread with mustard and lots veggies, a side of carrots or celery or something with light dressing to dip OR a Healthy Choice or Smart One dinner plus an added veggie or side salad with light or fat free dressing (go easy on the cheese) Snack: by now I usually want something sweet, so try one Hershey Kiss or a 100 calorie snack pack (a piece of fruit or something would still be a better choice though..please realize that) Dinner: baked, roasted or grilled chicken with brown rice and a veggie or two; I love breads and I will usually have a small roll or something too Here's the deal. This is just an example of what you might eat in a typical day. I personally don't deprive myself. If I have a craving for something, I will enjoy it within reason. I love ice cream and have found a delicious ice cream treat that has less calories and is sugar-free. It still isn't a perfect choice, but it is better than eating a bowl of fattening ice cream. The point is, be reasonable, get a variety of foods with plenty of veggies and fruits and try to have a balanced day. Watch your portions and get plenty of water. I used to eat what was equal to 3 bowls of cereal in one sitting because I didn't pay attention to serving sizes! That alone can make a difference. So don't think you can nhever eat a certain food again because you can if you are balanced and sensible. Also, working out can make a difference. Find some fun DVDs or get some cheap equipment to workout with (see the Fitness forum for a list of great equipment that is totally affordable) You can do this! :)"

I know it has nothing to do with food, but it has everything to do with self-esteem. If you have the time, try to take two or three classes. I promise, you will feel better about yourself almost immediately. As for food, definitly try to eat breakfast. Also, it sounds as though you have a really senditary lifestyle. Try to get yourself out of bed every day at 10, and do some yoga maybe. I recommend Yoga for Round Bodies, it's very helpful! Once you are used to getting up at 10, get up at 9. Then 8, etc. 8 am is a great time to go walking in the morning! You can have a glass of milk, walk for an hour, do yoga, and then eat a little breakfast. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and be sure to have a protein source at EVERY meal. Try eating your meal in a specific order, too. Protein first, then green leafy vegetables, then your starch or other vegetables, and then if you are still hungry, try an apple before breaking out the chocolate. Only drink water. ONLY. It will really help. Calcium and fiber suppliments might help too. The best way to make healthy changes is to love yourself. Fall in love with you, and you'll become too precious to negelct. You ARE too precious to neglect. Never forget that."

I just wanted to know what kinda schedule is the best for a young girl like me, what to eat that will make me lose weight. I eat healthy choices but Im wondering if they really work. I have came to conclusions that I am tired of the way that I am as being overweight and now with summer I would love to look great in a bathing suit and not have to worry about what people think. If anyone could please help me with a schedule of what is right and not right to eat and what I should do to lose weight that would be great. Thank you God Bless!"

I know I should I just don't really know how or where to begin. I don't have a tredmill, I live in an apartment. I normally walk to places though because they are close to me like cvs, nail place, wesselmans, stuff like that. I'm wanting to lose at least 60lbs maybe more. Im not sure how much I weight. I don't have a scale that works right now. Im probably around 215 or more...:( I am 5'6"

babygal2005 said: "Your probably right, I don't eat enough. People say that you should eat at least five to six times a day. Im not real sure if that is right or not but yeah. The reason why I don't eat breakfast is because I don't get up til like 11 or so. I just moved into an apartment with my family and I've applied at jobs. I think taking down the advice, writing down what to eat and getting one of those things that count your steps would be really good. I really need to start losing weight though. Im really not happy with my weight and I hope to be soon. If anyone has anymore advice for me then please tell me. I really need help before I get a heart problem or something like that. Thanks again."

babygal2005 said: "Thank you for the advice. My only worry is that Im not going to stick to it. Im not afraid to admit that I have a hard time to wanting to lose weight, half of its because my dad gets fat food and I tell him how I want healthy food in the house and he's like don't eat it but its too hard just to do that. Another reason for my weight gain is due to the death of my mother. I just want to lose half of it. Im tired of being known as a fatass, I want to be called gorgeous and not have to worry about hiding my stomach. Can someone please write out a schedule for me to go with and then I can try that and what to eat at the time. It would really help. Im just a girl who wants to lose weight and look great.
