Why are your hungry all the time? Why are your hungry all the time?
pixiechic said: "i think a lot of it has to do with just being bored. if you watch television, there are food commercials pounding away at you all day. they even turn the volume up so it seems like they are yelling at you to buy their stuff.
it doesn't seem surprising that people give into it all of the time."
pixiechic said: "maybe getting your body into a consistant eating schedule will help your metabolism stabilize? it might help your body to burn energy more effeciently.."
zozzo said: "Then again, many people get hungry not because they need food but simply because they're bored."
VaVoom said: "Your stomach is the biggest liar and often tricks you into thinking that you are hungry. You must listen to your brain instead. In other words think before you eat and always ask a fundamental question. “Am I really hungry?” “Do I really NEED this?” If you can hold out for about 10 minutes by occupying yourself with something, often you will find the craving for food to disappear. If you must put something in your mouth right then and there, drink a glass of water or eat celery or carrots, which are high in fiber. High fiber foods create the sensation of being full, and your body will have to work 10 times harder to burn them, resulting in weight loss for you. After all eating should be about supplying you body with nourishment, not entertaining yourself or to aleive boredom. Save entertainment for a good movie, without the buttered popcorn."

Your brain and body can play tricks, but if water doesnt help maybe you should listen to your body. If you eat healthy 3servings of dairy a day, 5fruits and veggies, 8 8oz glasses of water, and plenty of protein youve eaten all day long you wont gain weight from it,and youre not hungry. Be active, healthy, and not hungry!!!"
pixiechic said: "or a tall glass before you even start eating.
sometimes i have a cup of green tea prior to dinner.
you just always want to be sure that you drink plenty of water.
especially if you are involved in physical activity that is making you sweat!"
ALLconfused said: "I think what makes people gain weight is that they see all the super skinny models and then they feel bad about how they look and the result is eating much more than they need to eat."
Carblover said: "Our bodies are trained. If we eat a snack everyday M-F at 3pm, it's going to want that daily snack and bug you until it gets it. If you discipline and tell it "No" it might eventually quit begging for it. (I should probably learn from what I just said). I try to remember the "Wants and needs budget rule" Do I "need" this or do I "want" it."
believe said: "I agree with many of the replies here posted its boredom, being non-active, maybe its sitting in front of the tv or perhaps reading your favorite magazine or book, maybe even talking on the phone or sitting in front of the computer. Its sometimes for me a mixture of things even at times emotional feelings. But mostly just boredom and being more less active than active. :)"
USEDtobetiny said: "This thread really helps me out guys. I eat out of HABIT. 5 minutes before "my shows" come on, I get my snacks ready. Usually something really BAD!!! Lately, I've stopped eating at the dinner table and have been taking my dinner over to the TV. This way I sort of feed the urge to eat and watch at the same time, but I'm full after my dinner, and it's healthy(lately!)
But these are all good ideas you guys mentioned, I'll keep them in mind next time I'm "hungry""
pixiechic said: "the marketing message is strong, and it starts when we're very young.
whenever you put a kid in front of the tv, the kid starts seeing marketing messages, and with kids already watching too much tv, it ingrains it.
heres something that i'll bet you never noticed.
the next time you go to your grocery store, walk down the cereal aisle and notice the "faces" that are on the cereal boxes. if you pay attention, you'll notice that the eyes on the "faces" ( especially on the sugary types that kids prefer) are all looking down. if your kid is sitting in the cart, they are "looking" at him. they had this on a news show.. i want to say 20/20 but can't recall.
i never noticed it until it was pointed out, but how clever..."
featherish said: "Most of the time, you're not hungry at all. You're thirsty for water.
Snacking all the time (on the wrong foods) is what (in my opinion) helps to pack on a lot of extra weight.
Keeping your body properly hydrated is soooo important!
Alcohol and foods that are high in sodium suck the water right out of you.
If you don't drink that much water, it is easy to understand how your body might be trying to trick you!"
Henrietta said: "I think sugar and "insulin crashes" have a lot to do with it.
If you eat a lot of sugar, you get "hungrier" all the time. Just a result of bad diet and poor nutrition I would guess."
Henrietta said: "Very true about the boredom. If you aren't active, you're a lot more likely to get bored and want to eat.
I know part of it is television. I have a tendency to leave the tv on "in the background" when I'm doing things around the house. I'm almost always hungrier after a day of sitting around either watching the tv or just having it on in the background."
Heather said: "I think a lot of times we are taught to feed our emotions with food. And it doesn't matter which emotion it is. This is what leads to issues later in life.
We're always eating to satisfy a 'hunger' that doesn't even exist. And it leaves us still feeling hungry and overweight "
Heather said: "Munchies come from boredom.
Boredom comes from not pushing yourself at all.
I always think of that commercial that the Service ran for a while.
If someone were to write a book about your life, would anyone read it?"
Heather said: "
Lately...I've been fighting the late evening hunger pangs. I'm usually bored watching the things my husband wants to watch on tv. I've been drinking water and if it persists...I just go ahead and go to bed. Better to burn some calories sleeping than to add more to burn by eating. :)
Maybe you could learn how to knit? It would keep your hands busy and your mind occupied? It is something to focus on other than a boring television show.
Just a silly thought.."

Hence, the silly idea. :)"
spunkymonkey said: "being hungry is wierd for me there are days when every few hours i feel like i am starving (wich is obvious that i am not) my tummy growls and if i dont eat i am in pain, however there are otehr days when it gets around 8pm and i realize the only thing i have eaten all day was yogert for breakfest at 4:30am. my system is seriously messed up."
Darren said: "I mean it really doesn't make sense. Why are you so hungry all the time and what makes you make the wrong choices?
Maybe it really is the television ads. What are your thoughts?"
Darren said: "I know it's common sense, but I'll point out the obvious anyway: you get a lot more hungry if you are "just sitting around". Too much time in a sedentary environment make me want to eat more and more.
When I'm out accomplishing something I'm a lot less likely to feel hungry than if I'm just sitting around the house all day watching TV."
Darren said: "I've been able to kill the fake hunger pretty good in the last few months. Rather than give in, I fight it and within 10 minute I realize I'm not all that hungry. If I do give in, it's with an apple or some grapes."
Darren said: "Something I heard a long time ago that sticks with me: it takes 3 weeks to form a new habit. So, if you can force yourself to do something new for 3 weeks, it'll become a habit like anything else."

Yeah, for me its out of boredom."
cvalh said: "the people who say you're thirsty are totally right... also, during a meal, to keep you from wanting to eat as much, you could get a big glass of milk or water and drink it slowly during the meal. you'll get full faster, and you'll be less likely to want to force yourself to keep eating than if you were full from just food, in my experience."
UniqueMystique said: "Boredom is a huge factor in food consumption here in the States. It's also hard to resist temptation when tou live in a culture where everything is about food. We celebrate with food....grieve with food.....sympathize with food. Every 5 minutes there's a commercial on tv for food. It's crazy! How did this country get this way????"
