Eat protein and complex carbs together to give you the best effect. Simple sugars (from things like candy, fruit juices, sodas, white grains, etc.) may make you feel fine for a little while, but they cause insulin surges which CAN eventually lead to diabetes. Try to eat fairly often (about every 2-3 hours) and stay well-hydrated."

I'm hypoglycemic, but not diabetic. (meaning If I don't eat enough, or the right things, or wait to long in between meals) I get cold sweats, shakey, light headed, and will pass out if I don't get my blood sugar up. It's hereditary too, my mom has it also. If THIS is what you have, I have some recommendations, if you're diabetic, I have no idea :P My favorite on-the-go snacks are 1) Kashi granola bars (They are high protien, high fiber, low cal) 2) Sometimes I put some special K cereal in a zip lock baggy and carry it around to munch on throughout the day Here are some other tips if you're symptoms are hypoglycemic: AVOID: sugar, white flour, alcohol, caffeine and tobacco (they make it worse) BE CAREFUL: About high quanities of fruit, the sugar content can make some hypoglycemics have an 'episode'. Don't eliminate fruit, just make sure you eat small portions spread out through-out the day. Same with fruit juices. Sugar is Sugar to a hypoglycemic. DON'T: Skip breakfast! It's the most important meal of the day for a hypoglycemic. Your body has been "fasting" for 6-10 hours. You need breakfast! DO: be prepared! You should always have some sort of snack on you, in case of episode. It is not good to be stuck somewhere without the possiblity of getting a snack. (Plus, having something healthy on you at all times elimates the need to run an buy something unhealthy-which I used to do) DO -- Replace offending foods with good, wholesome, nutritious food and snacks as close to their natural state as possible. Lean meats, poultry (without the skin), whole grains, vegetables are all great for a hypogylcemic. Don't worry about this hurting your diet, I've been hypogylcemic my entire life. It's just a matter of eating the right things, in small portions, frequently. I usually eat a small breakfast, a granola bar, and substantial lunch, a snack, and then a light dinner. I have no trouble staying in my desirable calorie range. Good luck! And once again, these are only tips for hypoglycemia, NOT diabeties."
