natefan87 said: "Hey everyone...i need to tone my butt, and legs. I dont know what to do to do that! I set resistance on the elliptical, i even use a specail (elliptical-like) machine designed soley for your legs and butt. ITs so frustarting to have fat on your legs, and it feels like its never gonna go away. :("

stroutman81 said: "Razor, spot reducing is NOT possible. Haha, looks like we are going to butt heads on here quite a bit. Let's see if we can do it respectfully though. You seem contradictory in your previous post. You claim spot reducing is possible and that you also say your body loses fat equally all over. The definition of spot reducing is zoning in on a particular part of your body and trying to shed the fat in that area. For example, many woman desire to slim their thighs or tone their butt. That is spot reducing and it is NOT possible. I am a certified trainer and have been in the field for a long time, but I feel like you take me as some shlup that does not know his ass from his elbow. I feel like I need to do as you did to me with finding qoutes on the web and backing your statements, which I never have felt the need to do before. It is not possible to tone fat! You can not turn fat into muscle! And the more muscle you have, does NOT mean the less fat you have! Specific exercises cannot reduce body fat in specific areas. A prime example of this is ab exercises. Many people think that they can do a billion cruches to tone their belly, but if they have a lot of fat on their midsection, you will not see their abs. You may be building muscle under that fat, but you will not be eliminating the fat at all. Remember, in order to lose fat you need a calorie or energy deficit. And you also have NO control as to what part of your body loses fat first once you create that calorie deficit. There can be stubborn areas like women's inner thighs. A woman could be losing body fat weekly, but she still has "thunder thighs." That is known as a stubborn area and if she were to continue with her healthy eating and nutrition plan, the fat would eventually come off. It takes serious commitment and hard work. So many people are misinformed, and it appears that Razor is as well, that you can tone up fatty areas of your body by weight training. Again, YOU CANNOT TONE FAT! Razor, this is a common misconception and I hope you do some research before you come back at me yelling that spot reducing is possible AGAIN. I am sure you could simply type "spot reducing" or "spot reducing fat" in yahoo and you would find that it IS NOT POSSIBLE."

stroutman81 said: "Gotcha, I am usually a very easy going dude, trust me. You just really set something off in me.....and I truly feel like you were trying to prove me wrong or something. You dissected my post and even still, did not feel like anything was accomplished. That is why I posted what I did in great detail, and hopefully it all made sense."

Razor said: "Spot reducing is impossible! Your body loses fat all over. For instance doing a leg exercise will aid in losing fat around your abdomen. You body loses fat equally all over, although some people may carry more weight in different areas of the body more than others. I think your best bet would be to start a strength training routine and do some good muscle builders for the legs. Squats, extensions, curls and so forth. The more muscle you have the less fat you have."

Sorry[/QUOTE] No problem, and apology accepted =) although I would like to add about adding in references was to note on how right you are about density in volume but how it should not be misunderstood as a weight issue. I was not yelling in anyway and did not mean to sound rude if I did."
