I notice they started to add "buffalo wing" salads now, but I figure I need to pass on those. Restaurants want to sell you more food, so taste is their primary concern."

Trans fats are included with all other fats, so if the label says reduced fat, it doesn't mean that they've replaced other fats with trans fats. They just don't have to list trans fats separately. Often, what you might see is a label with total fat and saturated fat. The difference when you subtract the saturated from the total leaves you with the unsaturated and the trans fats."

UniqueMystique said: "...I'm not sure what post it was...but some woman was clearly ticked off at you. So much so that she left the site. Something about fat people being the most well read people on the face of the earth and that they probably know more about nutrition and exercise than you did....they just don't do anything about it...and that all you were wanting to do was become the next guru in your field. It just struck me as 'funny'......especially with others replying back to her telling her that she didn't have to be there. :D"

UniqueMystique said: "That's very true. There are some people that just thrive on arguing...whether they are right or not. Arguing gives me a headache...so I just quit bothering. People are set in their ways and you can't change them...they have to want to change themselves."

stroutman81 said: "Def. stay away from trans fats. They are chemically alters fats. The food industry gets away with murder because food makers are not required to show trans fats on their labels!! You should stay clear from spreads, baked goods, and fried foods. There are a load of companies and food products out there that smack "reduced fat" on the label or package, but in reality the product is loaded with trans fats since they are not required to list them. These trans fats are very harmful and have been linked to heart disease and cancer. I can not stress enough how important it is to exclude these fats from your diets."

stroutman81 said: "Haha, I think you misinterpreted my post, and down played it a little. My goal was to stress the dangers that accompany Trans fats and how companies are not required to list how much of the fat in a product is comprised of Trans Fats. I will go as far as to say that Trans Fats are what cause the majority of health problems stemming from food today. You are correct in what you responded with, but I was not incorrect with what I posted initially. I reread it however, and understand what you thought I meant. You thought I meant food companies can put low fat or no fat on the label and there could be 30 grams of trans fat hidden in the product. What I meant with what I typed is this: Companies can put reduced fat on the label so many people think that it is good for you, but the fat that is in the product is trans fats which makes it worst then had the product not been reduced fat. The reduced fat product may and I believe is actually worst for you when the fat that it does contain is Trans Fats. Sorry if I caused any confusion. Take care, Steve"

stroutman81 said: "HAHAHAHA, I completely forgot about that woman. We did have some serious arguments regarding that and it was done through email as well. I finally told her that is is not worth either of our times, so just leave the group. She said she wanted to anyway, as soon as she proves her point......long story short, she never left so I finally booted her out of the group. Some people are never pleased......but that is not my problem.....that is theirs!! ;)"

Most restaurants want to please you any way they can so you will come back. All places usually have a chicken or fish dish. I get that minus all the crappy stuff that might come with it and I 86 all the crappy side dishes and I get double veggies!"
