Am I headed in the right direction?

I could almost live with that if it were proportioned evenly but being 29 yrs old it was creating the "spare tire" effect around my belly and waist. Anyway, I am now down to 187 lbs. But seem to have hit a dead end. I would like to get down to 170 maybe 175 if I can gain some visible muscle mass. I have been at this particular weight for about about the last week at least if not more. My dieting routine for these last few weeks has consisted of running 2.2 miles every other day and working out in my gym for an hour and a half to 2 hours on the nights in between. I am a courier so I drive all day. I wake up at 6am, get dressed and eat 2 pieces of toast made with whole grain wheat bread. I don't eat anything else until supper time around 5pm when I'll make a salad with chicken chunks in it and I use the Carb Well Light dressing. Its either the salad or a can of tuna mixed with mustard and relish. I have been eating a lot of tuna and chicken needless to say. I drink diet coke or flavored water all day long. Nothing I eat really has anything in it as far as carloies, fat, or carbs. Lots of protien though. Should I be watching all four of these portions or just consentrate on the calorie intake? Not following any particular diet program, just made this crap up as I went along. One question I have is in the carb department, are sugar alcohols used in most sugar free candies ok to consume. Someone once told me they were. Anyway, back to the regimen. For my work outs I have purchased creatine and whey protien. I understand the creatine will supposedly add some water wieght to me but what about the whey protien? It I believe is used for gaining wieght isn't it? If I start drinking these protien shakes, will the weight gain be muscle and not fat. Remember that I am only working out with weights about 4 days of the weeks for only 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours each evening. Sorry this has been rambled on but I wanted to best describe my situation as possible so that someone might actually be able to help me figure out if I need to change anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated."
